‘Hopeless and broken’: why the world’s top climate scientists are in despair

Exclusive: Survey of hundreds of experts reveals harrowing picture of future, but they warn climate fight must not be abandoned

The Guardian

@Bellingen Having worked in the environment/sustainability/renewables arena for 30 years, I have been telling everyone this for a long while now, it was obvious what was going to happen decades ago.

But, the average person just refuses to listen, it's all too scary, all too hard, so they go back to their McMansions in their massive, oversized pickup trucks and SUVs, sit down to a steak dinner with their way too many kids, and then blame the government, the government they keep voting for against their own best interests.

How do you change this? The two main parties in Oz are both owned by the fossil fuel and mining industries, they will never make policy against their own greed, the only way to change things is for the population to change their own behaviours, and that starts by not voting LNP or Labor. Only the Greens and Teals will make policy that finally puts a nail in the coffin of the fossil fuel industry.

But, that won't happen, Australians, and humans generally, seem determined to self-destruct.
