This is so annoying. 😡

Have you noticed that whenever corporate media decides to publish one of their rare articles about global warming, they almost always will headline it with a cheerful photo of people at the beach, or happily enjoying the sun?

It's a subliminal message.

Yes, the words you're reading might be alarming, but that's okay. We've got this. Business and industry and government will work together to solve the problem. There's nothing to worry about.

As you see here, these three young women are smiling as they relax by a fountain. Life is good!

@breadandcircuses They should show immigrant farm workers stroking out & seizing in the sun because the state made a law preventing them to take breaks or drink water.
@breadandcircuses Damn you're right. It's also conflating it with the weather, like oh boy , global warming, today's gonna be a scorcher, put on that bathing suit, and have some fun!
@breadandcircuses
I prefer to think of the people in these photos as obvious fools; that's the world we live in.
@breadandcircuses Even back in summer 2022 when bits of the UK were literally bursting into flames it was so hot, the tabloids were still mostly going with the "Phew wot a scorcher!" style of reporting.
@breadandcircuses Spanish media is always like: Wonderful weather this weekend, people will enjoy a lovely beach day on Christmas eve.
@breadandcircuses it's maddening the degree in which they do this with everything.
@breadandcircuses it's a common theme for almost all stories. Very rarely is the photo matching the actual content.
@breadandcircuses Yeah the Earth is being cooked, but hey on the up side you can top up your tan .....
@breadandcircuses

I am yet to see this trend from Indian corporate media. There may be exceptions.
@breadandcircuses I feel it also sends the message that this is a good thing, enjoy the hotter summers!
@breadandcircuses Imminent mass extinction or fun in the sun? Here's what our readers say.
@breadandcircuses agreed about what you said, the media news are a business
@breadandcircuses reminds me of the old CIA trick in newspapers of positioning disconnected images and headlines in the layout to discredit people or ideas.
@breadandcircuses @vfrmedia I didn’t notice before. Thanks
@marco @breadandcircuses For many years I've always seen reports of extreme (hot) weather in Northern European countries spun as "enjoy the sun" (both in UK and NL). And even on the news in Malaysia and the Philippines there is no mention of the recent extreme heat (which is extreme even by SE Asian standards)
@breadandcircuses I am more concerned why these slackers aren't working their arse off in an Amazon warehouse.
@breadandcircuses. Yes. The subliminal messages of the photograph is an effective trick.

@breadandcircuses
All I ever see is my own experience in those photos. Living in the tropics let me know how hot is HOT.

So, it's sorta like I can't read Dilbert or watch The Office. It's too real.
