Yaknowwhat, it's not by any means ready yet but I'm heading out the door in a minute so I'm just gonna post my #gameDad website and see if it holds up under the Fedi Hug, here ya go lol

https://gamedad.club

Game Dad Club

Cheap little emulation handhelds

Well I'm back from picking up the kid and gamedad.club is still up and still responding instantly, huh

Given that this same server contains the website that provides my livelihood, as well as several other websites whose owners would have Questions if the site were to become overwhelmed, I suppose I'd better not post the link to https://www.gamedad.club again and then immediately go take a shower away from the computer

Game Dad Club

Cheap little emulation handhelds

I spent a long time commenting the source code and not one of you animals have right clicked this thing yet and told me how awesome I am, shame on you all
Well while I was out for dinner and a movie with spouse (Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare was pretty good btw, always fun watching nazis get shot) y'all hammered the heck out of my brand new website to the tune of SEVEN MEGABYTES
@ifixcoinops You got one hit on your shiny new JS single page web application, Dan? 😅
@ifixcoinops That is indeed a nice picture of your Game Dad and coffee mug

@ifixcoinops Nice, I'm so used to pages being awful I don't bother usually. PHP page fragments is how I used to do my blog, too. It's a little dumb but it works fine, better than making a big CMS.

Console tells me there's no favicon.ico

@mdhughes oh yeah, guess I gotta make one of those

@ifixcoinops ... I made the mistake of reading all the pages before coming back here to reply. Nonetheless, "oh my goodness" indeed!
I 100% agree with that philosophy of website building. :)

(and if you'll accept a tiny bit of feedback, I think there's no link to come back to homepage right now? No "home" in the side navigation, the big top title/banner ain't clickable?)

@ifixcoinops In fairness it’s been years since I could look at a site’s source without worrying I was gonna have nightmares for a week so I think a lot of us have had adverse conditioning on this matter.

@ifixcoinops ...I think you may have successfully inspired me to go look at my own PHP-fragment bloggity-do and maybe even fix the stuff I've just been living with broken for some 20 years

Also now I want a Game Dad to play my fave old Atari 2600 games on, so well done you

(and if it could also do Katamari that would be nice)

@NicoleJLeBoeuf haha you picked two opposites of the emulation difficulty extreme there :P
@ifixcoinops I love Game Dad (specifically the Miyoo Mini plus)
@ifixcoinops I just read this whole website about a device family I will never buy and I loved every page
@ifixcoinops (suggest adding a link to / to the navthing)
@ifixcoinops nice footer text. Just the right amount of humour vs snark
@ifixcoinops Nice site :) I like the idea and the name
@ifixcoinops I know my answer but do you consider Analog Pocket a #gamedad? Maybe #Playdate is a #gamepal?
@caleb PlayDate is a Crank Dad. Analog Pocket is Game Dad Adjacent. These things don't live with the Game Dads on the compound but they meet up in the pub for quiz night and they get on nicely.
@ifixcoinops Analogue with the emulator software is pretty sweet but I didn’t want to live with you anyhow 😉
@ifixcoinops I certainly named my RH35XX-H that showed up a week ago “GameDad” based on your nomenclature!
@ifixcoinops Happy to help contribute to the stress test.
@ifixcoinops This name for such devices is perfect! I don't know if today's kids will appreciate such devices and old games, but adults/dads/grown-up kids will sure do 😁

@ifixcoinops
i'm very unlikely to buy one of these (maybe because my phone still has a keyboard lol) but i really enjoyed reading this site

(the Unihertz Titan is kinda Game Dad shaped, but it's a phone with all the evil that entails. and playing games on it is almost impossible bc Android game makers are not tryna support a square screen)

@acetone_kitten that was one of the very few Different Phones I considered before settling on a FairPhone 4 and I often wonder whether I made the right choice
@ifixcoinops
you probably did make the right choice on a rational level, there are a large number of hassles with Square Phone, but i do love this thing
@acetone_kitten @ifixcoinops I got the Pro1X and put Lineage on it. It is good enough for the time being but I have no idea what I will get next.

@ifixcoinops I love it, I already have one, but I have a question. You alluded to things that are powerful enough to run PS2 games. Do you have any links or names of such things off the top of your head?

Last time I looked for one they didn’t quite exist

@crazybutable not off the top of my head, but the PS2-capable things are basically handheld PC's, think Steam Deck style of things. Not happening for under 300

@ifixcoinops ah gotcha. I have enough computers I don’t need another one

I do love my game dad, I got it last year based on one of your threads. So thanks! I basically downloaded all of the games I already have because my physical consoles have been slowly dying.

I had to get the magic HDMI cable so that I could use it on a big screen because it’s more comfortable than peering at the screen with my reading glasses. I just wish I knew how to remap the buttons for one of the emulators

@crazybutable what kind did you get? If it runs RetroArch then if I remember right you can remap controls per emulator or per game, although the process for saving your changes is pretty counter-intuitive
