A few weeks ago, my 70-something firecracker aunt went on a river cruise, caught #covid, developed pneumonia, was hospitalized, seemed to be recovering, and then suddenly died. I hate exposing my family’s private grief, but I want to remind you that covid is not fucking over.

@Artemis
Thank you for that.

I attend functions and fist-bump instead of a handshake, especially if we'll be eating. I know it's not the same as masking, but it's my way of telling people I know this isn't over.

@Artemis

Thank you for sharing this.

@Artemis It's likely endemic now.
@pinkdrunkenelephants @Artemis endemic refers to the spread of the disease
HIV, malaria, influenza are all endemic, and all still serious diseases. You still need to take appropriate precautions
Saying COVID is endemic means we need different control strategies, not that COVID is no longer an issue
@Dangerous_beans @Artemis That doesn't have much to do with anything. I'm just pointing out it's endemic now, and it is. Is there a problem with me doing that?
@pinkdrunkenelephants people use "it's endemic" as a thought terminating cliche to avoid having to think about possible mitigations and changes in behaviour
You're repeating covid denialist BS, and should expect to be treated as such
@Dangerous_beans Well, that's entirely a you problem. I didn't come up here with any ulterior motives or intent. *You* projected *your* fears and thoughts onto me, and since that's the first thing you think about when anyone doesn't tell you what you want to hear regarding covid, you need to go meditate on that.
@pinkdrunkenelephants Disagree. If you can't be bothered to differentiate yourself from denialists, that's partly a you problem. @Dangerous_beans
@SallyStrange @Dangerous_beans Then you need to meditate on what I said, too. I don't have to alleviate your fears to earn the right to state the obvious.

@pinkdrunkenelephants @Dangerous_beans your indifference to taking social context into account when attempting communication is not my problem and requires no meditation on my part

If it's obvious, why state it?

@SallyStrange @Dangerous_beans It is your problem because you are the one upset by it, because you are the one being unreasonable, and because you ultimately will suffer if you do not. 🤷 It's certainly not going to be mine. Covid is endemic now. Attaching implications that are not there to try to dismiss that obvious fact will not help you. Have a good day.
@pinkdrunkenelephants @SallyStrange @Dangerous_beans I meditated. You sound like a COVID denialist. Don't really know what you were trying to accomplish with your "endemic" statement otherwise. You may elaborate. Or not.

@pinkdrunkenelephants it's pretty unhinged to go into the comments of a post about a bereavement and start presenting medical facts you happen know.

There are lots of good places to tell people about how you know a medical fact.

@Umbellule It's pretty unhinged to misrepresent an entire conversation just to take part in the exact kind of immature circlejerk you left Twitter to get away from, but you're welcome to keep showing the class you're just as petty as you claim your political opponents are. 🤷

@pinkdrunkenelephants @Umbellule okay serious question. How would you know who Umbel's "political opponents" are? Or even that such people exist?

It doesn't look like you've had any contact with them before and it's not in their profile.

Unless you're old friends or something.

@Artemis I appreciate people like you, sharing ongoing #covid #realities 👐
@Artemis Sorry that you’ve lost your aunt. Sad to lose someone earlier than expected, and for the root cause to be basically a failure of public health policy. 😔
@Artemis
I am still masking...
I will probably mask forever.
I have not been sick in at least 10 years.
I am truly sorry for your loss.
@Artemis I'm very sorry for your loss, and thank you for the sharing.
@Artemis So sorry to hear this. And thank you.

@Artemis

I'm sorry for your loss. Sounds like she lived a hell of a life.
My local area is at .004% positivity in wastewater testing so I am more comfortable than I have been in years. Still masking in anything like a medical or airplane situation though, and continuing to track the wastewater testing!
Little worried about the multiple outbreaks of not-Covid that are killing people in South and Central America though :-/

@Artemis I am so sorry for that loss. Much love from our family to yours.
@Artemis I'm so sorry for your loss. May her memory be a blessing.
@Artemis So sorry for your loss. I keep telling my extended family that we aren’t remotely done fighting this thing.
@Artemis So sorry to hear about your aunt! We all need to keep taking it seriously for people like her! ❤️
@Artemis Sorry for your loss and thank you for sharing. Your aunt only has 10 years on myself, it is reminder to be careful.
@Artemis I keep telling my 96 year old mum she runs a risk eating out in winter especially. She doesn’t mask at all. I’m sorry for your loss.
@Artemis
I'm so sorry for your loss.😥
@Artemis I am sorry for your loss. 😥 I agree with you that Covid is not over.
@Artemis All the best for you and your family.
And indeed, #CovidIsNotOver .
@Artemis I'm sorry for your loss and even sorrier that it is still necessary to broadcast it because we are pretending COVID is over.

@Artemis

I am sorry for your loss.

It may only be a miniscule comfort, but please know that you are not alone.

There's a houseful of clowns here still masking and being extremely careful.

Thank you for reminding people how real this still is.

<3

@Artemis thank you for sharing. I had a good friend die in January. She was only 60. It's still here and it won't go away unless we mask.
@Artemis I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing your aunt’s story. May she rest in peace.
@Artemis @MLanselle I’m so sorry for your loss and for her tragic demise. Thank you for the timely reminder at the beginning of the Northern vacation season.
