This has been in the works for some time. With help from the NixOS community, we're set up to begin the process of introducing NixOS as a Community support distro.

NixOS community will be helping Framework with docs and related and we will provide hardware to those selected.

Some details being ironed out. This is a method of ensuring NixOS users identified as ideal candidates (a couple of selected people) can help us ensure we have Framework docs in place.

@frameworkcomputer @ocramius good news for you?
@brunty @frameworkcomputer mostly for supporters of the project: on my end, I already know that Nixos shines on these platforms :-)
@frameworkcomputer This is rather unfortunate timing considering the recent split in the Nix community.
@chamomile @frameworkcomputer not familiar with nix, did the project fork?
@chat @chamomile @frameworkcomputer no. Just some drama with the community. It's fine. The project is fine and community is evolving. Like all of these things
@frameworkcomputer must've been a relief to hear that the project isn't being torn to shreds (yet)
@frameworkcomputer Thanks to `nixos-hardware`, NixOS has probably been the best supported Linux distro for Framework laptops since day 1 with the least effort. I have been using NixOS on my Framework 13, 12th Gen Intel (and AMD Ryzen) since the second I received them, and NixOS has handled all the weird quirks and workarounds required to get the laptops working as best as possible on NixOS.
Seconding this. I've been daily driving my Framework 13 on NixOS for a little over a year (since I got the laptop), and although I'm still stumbling ignorantly through a lot of Nix, it's been a solid machine that has pretty much just worked for me. I've been really happy with the experience.

@frameworkcomputer if this actually happens, I might get a Framework laptop.
@graphite i'm def getting one regardless at some point lol
@graphite for now my current laptop is fine so yknow
@frameworkcomputer Nice to hear, maybe ill move my framework over to nix then.ive been using popOS but have some ussues ive been a bit too lazy to fully debug.
@frameworkcomputer not sure if you want the #nixos / #nix community to write your docs 🙈 *scnr
@frameworkcomputer Excellent… I’ve been hoping that this will happen and it will make my buying decisions easier when I need a new work laptop.
@frameworkcomputer Damn... That is the last straw... Now I have to get one of your stupid Laptops.
FINE. You win. 😂🤣
@frameworkcomputer Awesome! I've been meaning to try out NixOS once my Framework 16 arrives, happy to hear about this collab. Now, to patiently wait for shipment...
@frameworkcomputer
Framework computer solde with @snowflakelinux OS with (I hope) coming CosmicDE flake, what a dream 🤩
@frameworkcomputer glad to see this. Havent gotten a framework yet because the Minisforum V3 fit my needs a lot better, but if I ever try to build a 2-in-1 tablet in the future, I'm glad to know that I can use Framework to build it and trust it will have support for NixOS.
