Daring Fireball
@daringfireball wow! My form of protest against my employer involves me quitting in protest. Imagine how the other employees felt watching this play out? If this happened at my workplace I would go home out of concern for my safety.
@khurtwilliams @daringfireball
Good thing you don't live in Palestine and that you live such a sheltered life that you think a peaceful sit-in is a safety concern.
@freediverx @daringfireball respectfully. No! You are on the wrong side of this. Protests of any kind do not belong in the workplace. The uninvolved employees have no way of knowing if (or when) the protests could take a nasty turn. If you want to protest an employer's action quit and tell them why.

@khurtwilliams @daringfireball
First of all, I want to separate the wisdom and effectiveness of this sit-in from the ethics and intentions behind it. Every civil liberty that we take for granted was won through protest and civil disobedience. Our country's very independence was won through rebellion.

You can argue that the employees in this case overplayed their hand and lost their jobs as a result, but that doesn't mean their motivations weren't sound or justified.

@khurtwilliams @daringfireball

And it's very tone-deaf to suggest they should have “just quit” given the sad state of our country's labor laws and social safety nets. This gross imbalance of power is why we desperately need more unionization.

@freediverx and it’s tone deaf to think you can shit where you eat.
@khurtwilliams
The employer is as dependent on the worker as the other way around. The problem is the imbalance of power unless the workers can organize and act collectively.
