Humor often reaches people where Serious doesn't. It creates an intimacy almost immediately with the audience.
It's useful.
So what looks like a "waste of time" is actually serving a purpose (big footing the GOP in the news cycle) at a moment when the GOP Fascist Party prevents normal process of legislation.
Just my 2 cents.

Good point except that I hear my neighbors laughing at their crap when I grab a sandwich at the diner though. I was just in a conversation over with @GovTrack and others about Greene and Moscowitz and how so many people on the left side of the aisle just laughs off what so many of them do because they seem stupid.
So to finally summarize, my reply to your discussion was not actually pertinent to it.
Maybe that will be my last mistake...for a few minutes at least.

It also serves to provide content for the army of talking heads who consume millions of minutes of airtime.
The right largely controls the dialogue because they produce the most content (and have dedicate channels to boost it).
Getting more lefty content out, even if mocked on the rightwing channels, will help shape the narratives.

I agree. In my younger, more libertarian days, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report reached me the way nothing else could have. Those jokes had a way of cutting through so many of my assumptions and helped me open my mind.
