Democrats moved as quickly as possible—despite #GOP #obstruction & #delay tactics— to dismiss the #unconstitutional article of impeachment accusing the #DHS sec of refusing to enforce #immigration #law.
By a vote of 51 to 48, w/ 1 senator voting “present,” the #Senate ruled that the charge was #unconstitutional because it failed to meet the requisite #constitutional bar of #HighCrimesAndMisdemeanors. #Republicans united in opposition except for Senator Lisa #Murkowski of Alaska, the lone “present” vote, while #Democrats were unanimous in favor, after arguing that a cabinet member cannot be impeached & removed merely for carrying out the policies of the admin they serve.
