Sitting Senator publicly incites others to engage in politicized murder of civilians.

Senator Tom Cotton has a zest for the murder of U.S. citizens—see his op-ed calling for summary execution of protesters against police brutality—and he is a leader within our nation's fascist party, so this should perhaps not be such a surprise, but it should always be a shock.

@JuliusGoat That would be a felony in many democratic countries around the world. But I guess the "freedom of speech should have limitations" is the beginning of a slippery slope. (/s)
@Illuminatus @JuliusGoat
There are states that legalized running over protestors specifically after Heather Hayer was murdered by a man driving his car into people at a Unite The Right counter protest. (They chanted "Jews will not replace us" but here he shows that he also cares about hurting Palestinians and their supporters.)
@RnDanger @JuliusGoat If they don't get a civil war it won't be for lack of trying.

@Illuminatus @JuliusGoat
there IS a limit to 'Free Speech', and inciting riot is outside the legal limit, as is falsely defaming someone

<edit w thanks to the guy who taught me something important >

@PeachMcD

This is misunderstood and incorrect. One can shout fire in a crowded theatre, it is not illegal. It can violate state or local laws under false report of an emergency. It could lead to charges if someone is trampled or injured but it’s not illegal

@damon @PeachMcD
This metaphor about yelling Fire in a crowded theater was used in a failed argument that said you can't protest a war once the government decides to go in.

This idea needed to die a century ago

@damon @PeachMcD
Inciting violence is not protected speech, to be clear, but that specific argument has a bad history.

@PeachMcD @Illuminatus @JuliusGoat "Shouting 'fire!' in a movie theater" is a very bad example on the limits of free speech. Might I suggest instead using things like false advertising, threats, and defamation?

Here are some bits about the problem with "fire":

Don't give this a free pass.

Thanks for clarifying.
@PeachMcD @Illuminatus @JuliusGoat You're very welcome! 😄

Mastodon is a cool place. I learn stuff all the time 🖖🏼🍻
@Illuminatus @JuliusGoat calling for violence is only legal for some people in America
@JuliusGoat
How does he feel about the "protestors" on Jan 6?

@JuliusGoat yeesh!

the terrorists are inside the building

#stocasticterrorism

@JuliusGoat I encourage people who get stuck behind the pro-fascism Supreme Court: take matters into your own hands to get them off the bench.

It's time to put an end to this nonsense.
