Would be really embarassed right now if I had Dbrand as a sponsor. I get brands wanting to be edgy, but racist name jokes being your brand are a yikes
@Techaltar Woah… that’s not real, right? As someone who’s had there name made fun of, this is not cool.
dbrand (@dbrand) on X

Your last name is basically shit rash, be serious

X (formerly Twitter)
@Jackha @Techaltar The “db” in Dbrand stands for douchebags.
@khalidabuhakmeh @Jackha now that's a name joke I can get behind!
@Techaltar oh god
@millions @Techaltar Oh… Oh my god… Oh god…
@yassie_j @Techaltar just saw some horrible takes on r/dbrand
@yassie_j @millions @Techaltar I just found an article on it. When people got mad dbrand defended it by saying they gave a proper support response first. And the post is still up. Like holy fuck
@arctic there's was so far from a proper response, dbrand must have a really awful social media/brand management rep... imagine doubling down.

@arctic @millions @yassie_j @Techaltar apparently they deleted it after MKBHD called them out

https://www.theverge.com/2024/4/11/24127613/dbrand-racist-tweet-apology-mkbhd

> “Won’t be working with dbrand until that original tweet is deleted, at least,” Brownlee said. [...] Dbrand deleted the post hours later, acknowledging that it “created a platform for hateful discourse.” Brownlee [...] said it was “good to have you back” after the company deleted its post.

Dbrand’s brash social media schtick just cost the company $10,000

Dbrand, the company that makes phone skins and cases, has apologized to a customer after it made a racist comment about their last name.

The Verge
@Techaltar WTF, how did anyone think this was okay?
@Techaltar
wtf is dbrand
never heard of them
@a1ba @Techaltar an edgy company selling skins/cases for smart devices

@Techaltar wow surely they can be sued for libel for this (and unlike in some cases, would fully deserve it)

Edit: probably not, as libel is something that causes -another person- to think less of the one who was libeled. But sure as hell there ought to be -some- kind of legal redress here

@Techaltar They usually have better jokes than this without being racist (unintentionally or not)
@Techaltar Chitransh basically means artist in Sanskrit language.
@Techaltar tweets that instantly destroy your entire business dot png
@MattiRedsky @Techaltar I really wish, unfortunately I imagine this is calling a certain demographic of theirs out of the bushes to cheer their behaviour on
@Techaltar Well the last four letters of their name stands for something else in my language, so they should the last one to talk
@Techaltar but the joke is not racist, it's a joke about the name. It's not a good reply to the complain neither.
@Mai9 making fun of people's foreign names is racism 101. It's what every bully in school does to the foreign kid. Just take a look at the replies under the tweet, they are full of people dunking on the guy for being Indian (no idea if he is, but that's what they are going with).
@Techaltar ChatGPT says that "Making fun of someone's foreign name can be considered a form of racism or xenophobia", sooo, alright, but to my eyes, they're are just disrespectful. Thanks for the clarification.
