Thanks, Tawtovo, for reminding me.

Here is the Washington Posts's roundup.

When they go beyond the facts, they make very safe assessments and predictions.

They're also obviously trying to keep the tone calm. They even say as much.

The Trump Trials: Cannon brawl

The latest news in Donald Trump’s four criminal cases, and what to watch for this week as the New York hush money trial looms.

Someone mentioned that the jury selection in New York will be lit.

I would imagine every New Yorker wants to be on that jury.

Completely personal observation:
Trump was lucky to draw 1 (of many) sympathetic judge. When I practiced in California it seemed like almost all judges were sympathetic to the prosecution and hostile to the defense. Most judges were former prosecutors. Some seemed eager to help the prosecution.

In high profile cases they usually try to look good.

Why I like this roundup: I've been reading it since it started, and (so far) I never once felt annoyed 😂

They often offer a legal term for the week.

This week the"nerd word" is Mandamus. I think someone here asked me what a mandamus was this week.

Sometimes they answer a question.

@Teri_Kanefield
I don't want it to be 'lit'...I want it to be over in a week. I know that Trump's lawyers will file all kinds of objections..."We don't know if juror #263 voted Democrat in 1988! MISTRIAL!!!"

I just hope Merchan and Bragg smooth walk it despite the theatrics.

@Teri_Kanefield Also, I'm looking forward to your coverage of the trial.

@darthstar

I am not going to cover the trial. For one thing, doing it right would be a full time job.

I'd advise against listening to legal pundits and commentary for all the reasons I talked about in the last two blog posts. Stick to factual coverage as much possible.

@Teri_Kanefield
I'll have to follow the @GottaLaff filter then. Swearing off daytime MSNBC after 10 days in Mexico which I feel was a cleansing of my anxiety gland.

Tequila>toxic TV.

@darthstar

I can imagine. I can't even bear to look at Twitter or Threads these days. It's stomach churning.

This is the only place I ever chat anymore.

@Teri_Kanefield it’s common for jury selection to take a long time in high profile trials like this, no? I’m thinking of selection in Young Thug’s RICO trial in Georgia taking months and months. That’s probably an outlier, but still.
@Teri_Kanefield In my experience, most people don’t want to be on juries. And this trial is expected to last weeks, they have to take steps to keep the jurors anonymous because of Trump’s threats & his rabid supporters.

@Leu2500 Deleting and starting over because I am probably projecting (also speaking from witnessing how brave people were in Georgia going to the polls in the face of adversity.

Some people are like "bring it on."

When I was doing voter protection work in GA in 2020, a guy came with a gun to the polling place. A few people were scared, but a very long line of mostly women in rural GA were like, 'Bring it on. We've faced worse in our lives."

Lots of people came out to work the polls in 2022.

@Teri_Kanefield

Could you please expand on your personal observation about Trump drawing a sympathetic judge in NY and provide a few specific examples of Merchan's behavior that lead you to your conclusion? thx!

@Teri_Kanefield jury selection in New York is going to be mass hysteria!
@Teri_Kanefield: This is a good one giving a concise wrap up of the week's activities on the trials.
@Teri_Kanefield
This was helpful info. And I signed up for the pinocchio Fact Checker at the bottom too. Thank you so much!

@Teri_Kanefield

Jeopardy attaches when a Jury is empaneled - but it seems obvious that would no longer hold in the case of a mistrial. Could a Writ of Mandamus request an order to the Judge to declare a mistrial?
