Microsoft blocks even more customization apps in Windows 11 version 24H2. Switch to #Linux or #macOS (if you need those Adobe and other apps). Both oses allows customization. Source: https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-blocks-even-more-customization-apps-in-windows-11-version-24h2/
Microsoft blocks even more customization apps in Windows 11 version 24H2

Microsoft appears to be blocking even more apps for customizing the user interface in Windows 11 24H2. Users noticed that ExplorerPatcher joined the recently blocked StartAllBack app.

@nixCraft Steam came such a long way, I completely gave up using Windows - without even noticing at first..
My openSUSE Tumbleweed is just better (loading times, framerate, stability,..)
@nixCraft Los que editamos fotos en RAW con Photoshop necesitamos que Linux funcione para esto :janiawoo:
@nixCraft Most of my VST(i) need Windows. 🤷‍♂️
@nixCraft So long as Winaero Tweaker works
@nixCraft This is in case you were planning to remove the upcoming co-pilot/AI stuff they plan to shove in your face.
@nixCraft yup truth, Microsoft is EVIL but folks still use and for everytime Microsoft blocks something, someone will find a Work AROUND for it!
@nixCraft
Why is this a priority for Microsoft, anyway?
@phi1997 @nixCraft "I know the best way that we can get more money, by making our user experience even worse"
@nixCraft they made this decision at a great time. Linux community is looking forward to some new releases like Ubuntu LTS and PopOS with Cosmic DE.
@nixCraft The amazing thing is that someone is still tweaking the interfaces in 2024. Must be the same people who paid for ringtones and install curly fonts… I always thought a computer was for running programs, not gazing at its buttons. I hardly know what systems are running on my machines, haven’t seen a desktop wallpaper in years
@nixCraft i am a victim of forced "updates"massiveswapfiles

@nixCraft

So that one moron designer that's been enshittifying the windows UI since 8 has finally aged into a decision making position and is taking the fact that the entire world repeatedly rejects his infantile ideas about UI and UX personally now. Good Luck Karen, you're gonna need it.

@nixCraft Who does Microsoft think they are? Apple?
@nixCraft After switching over to daily driving MacOS, I can definitely say Windows has lost its charm, the things that made it special in the first place. I am definitely looking forward to the day we get linux pcs preinstalled (on ARM??).
@turbonormie @nixCraft MacOS suffers from this problem far more than Windows does (not to defend Windows). Forcing the removal of perfectly useful old tools and comfortable interfaces in favor of the new simply for the sake of being new might make the job more in-line with what the devs dreamed of, but like car manufacturers forcing people to use touch screens instead of knobs and buttons, it's actively making things worse and goes against the UX knowledge of generations.
@bifo @nixCraft TBF I've only used in Apple Silicon era so my guess is most deprecated old tools were deemed not useful for the transition. Also for developers maintaining old code gets much more difficult if not actively in demand or trying to fix an inherently flawed codebase.
@nixCraft
“The latest builds ship with the flag that prevents restoring the old taskbar from the Windows 10 era enabled by default. This could be a sign of Microsoft wanting to remove old components from Windows 11 as it moves forward.”
Yeah, I doubt it. It is something they need to do though.
@nixCraft I'm not using 24H2 but the version I am on has begun making it actively difficult to open traditional windows system apps. I have to punch in the .msc app name to run basic things like Device Manager, for which there is no Windows 11 equivalent.

@nixCraft Stardock apps still work because they utilize the newer APIs. The programs mentioned don't because they use APIs that are being deprecated.

Saying customization is dead is not the right take here.
