Its beyond satire really...

The UN has just appointed (by acclamation - there were no other candidates put forward) the Ambassador from Saudi Arabia to he'd up the UN Commission that is supposed to promote women's rights across the world & empower women politically....

Given the grudging, uneven & slow progress on such empowerment in his own state, the notion that this can possibly be a positive more for global women is beyond belief.

UN picks Saudi Arabia to lead women’s rights forum despite ‘abysmal’ record

I also observed yesterday that this development is beyond satire.
Mostly though it's truly, gobsmackingly obnoxious towards women.
It would be on a par with Israel heading up a Commission on genocide.
Ineffably absurd
@ChrisMayLA6
Recent events really are laying bare what an impotent, hollowed out organisation the UN currently is. The major state actors categorically do not want a UN with teeth, so I would guess that the UN's gradual emasculation will continue. It will, I imagine, continue its existence as a veneer of fairness and propriety.
These are dark times

@Shivviness

yes, I think that's a plausible interpretation of why developed states sat on their hands when the objections to the Saudi chair were invited....
