@gruber @2001faster i noticed that. I follow both 2001 accounts and the faster one is much more enjoyable.
@gruber The predictions from 2001 are uncanny. Tablets? Check. Vertical video? Check. People not interacting in person and glued to their gadgets? Check. Artificial intelligence hallucinating itself into utter insanity…..?
@brianrkf even the aesthetics of the table are very iPad 1.0 esque.
@brianrkf @gruber I’ve always wondered if the AI in Space Odyssey was actually prescient and to avoid humanity’s downfall was willing to sacrifice itself and the crew to prevent them reaching the doorway to the superior race 🙁
@gruber @2001faster also predicting that every meal would be spent looking at said glass squares.
@gruber a favorite story from the book about 2001 I read a few years ago is that all the ship flatscreens were rear-projection film projections. They bolted a bunch to the spinning set piece..: and forgot that the reels were held in place by gravity and the projectors were not meant to work upside down.
@gruber
Futurists have always been a bit out there but surprisingly close. Look at original Star Trek.
@caspercdn It often occurs to me that our iPhones today are way cooler and more useful than their tricorders from the 25th century.
@gruber
The future’s so bright … 😎
@gruber Also interesting looking at all the future newspaper headlines created during production, I used AI to turn them all into full articles https://vole.wtf/kubrick-times/
The Kubrick Times 🚨📰 AI newspaper

2001: A Space Odyssey headlines turned into computer-generated articles using GPT-3 and DALL·E 2.

@gruber I’m afraid Stanley’s predicted the Kindle.
@gruber Self fulfilling prophecy…
@gruber @2001faster An amazing movie. Saw it in a theater when new, all of us under the influence to be ready for the trip across the universe near the end 🙂
@gruber I mean you shouldn’t stop just there
@gruber do you remember when Samsung used this exact screen frame i its lawsuit with Apple?
