tfw your wiper blades start streaking so you look up how often you're supposed to change them on your six year old car and it says every six months to a year
@christianselig Wait till you hear that you're supposed to replace your bed pillow every year.
@mahryekuh you’re supposed to *what*?! That said I did replace it a year or two ago so it can’t be that bad.
@megamatt Well, they can't force you to buy a new pillow. Just sharing 😂
@christianselig wait till they streak so much that you need to buff it out with a polishing tool 🫠
@christianselig silicone blades last a bit longer but you usually have to buy them online
@dbloom I'll consider that when these new rubber ones wear out in 2030
@christianselig I also recently learned that it’s that often, but I don’t think anyone actually does that.
@christianselig If you aren’t parking out in the sun (and not using them much), they’ll last longer. The estimated life for wiper blades is hugely variable to the point of being a useless measure.
@freeagent That makes me feel better! Yeah it’s been inside 99% of its life
@christianselig @freeagent I mean, wiper blades aren’t like teeth, which need to be cleaned by a dentist regularly or else they’ll rot away, or like oil which needs to be replaced regularly so the engine doesn’t melt; they don’t NEED to be replaced if you’re not having issues :P
@christianselig I was in a very similar situation recently, once I replaced them it felt like the first time I got my prescription glasses — “omg so this is what it feels like to actually see”.

@fichek @christianselig New blades and some Rain-X?

Perfection.

@christianselig 5 year old car, I wipe down the wipers every time I wash it. The wipers are still good - it's the slowly polluted, glossed over glass that needs steel wool.

@christianselig eh depends on where you are and how much you use them.

Just replace them when the streaking becomes a problem 🤷🏽‍♂️

@christianselig Take the opportunity to check your tread wear while you're out there changing them. Bad tires can sneak up on you.
@christianselig that’s a lie by Big Wipers to sell more wipers
@christianselig that sounds like Big Wiper trying to convince you to buy more often
@christianselig I haven’t replaced them on my 8 year old car. It’s fine.

@christianselig

Clean your wipers with WD-40 on a paper towel. It will extend the wipers life but six years …. lol. I get 9 months in FL.

@christianselig LOL. Just had this experience yesterday. My research discovery is that you can buy rubber refills instead of the whole blade. Much cheaper.
