WTF is going on with UK Labour and UK politics in general?

Brexit has shifted the Overton window so far to the right that Labour are now Thatcherites, and the Tories are full blown fascists.

Margaret Thatcher was a ‘visionary’ says Labour’s David Lammy

The shadow foreign secretary’s words are likely to infuriate the left of his party.

@ccferrie
Actual quote: "You can take issue with Mrs Thatcher’s prescription, but she had a big manifesto for change and set about a course that lasted for over two decades.”

This is in the context of saying that a labour government now would be as big a change as Thatcher's was. So he's not praising her policies but her effectiveness, which you can't really argue against.

@ccferrie And this lifelong Labour voter, ex NHS nurse and ex shop steward won’t be voting for them.
@ccferrie This has been going on some time. It's the natural end-point to the antisemitism gibberish around the Corbyn putsch.
@ccferrie People asked if things could be better and the ruling class said absolutely fucking not and did everything in their power to stop it from happening.
@ccferrie @cstross OTOH, Tony Blair was a Thatcherite from the start; plus ça change
@acb @cstross perhaps, but he was never so explicit about it
@ccferrie @cstross Blair talked a vague, noncommittal things-can-only-get-better message (stripped of any vestiges of socialism) whilst continuing a Chicago-school trickle-down agenda. Starmer is talking up Thatcher-era Toryism as obvious talking points to the elderly homeowners who cling to the Tories. What Labour does behind the scenes, in circumstances unlike the 80s, may reflect this to varying degrees.
@ccferrie Genghis Khan was a visionary

@ccferrie

A dystopian vision is still a vision.

@ccferrie @jripley Thatcher, asked her proudest accomplishment, said, “Tony Blair”.
@ccferrie similar trend in France where the left wing (anyone who truly cares for social policy or the environment) is now treated as a terrorist group menacing "democracy". The center government turns the extreme right's dreams from a few years ago into reality and receives their praise for it. And the current extreme right... Well they keep a smile on and wait until they inevitably come to power 3 years from now.
