PSA for MacOS Sonoma users who don't want those fucking hearts / balloons / confetti reactions injected into your video feed at random while gesticulating in meetings, you may already know you can access the setting to turn them off via Facetime (wtf) or via the camera icon when it's active, but TIL you have to turn that shit off PER CAMERA. If you use an external webcam the Facetime setting doesn't cover it.

This message brought to you by fucking balloons appearing in a serious meeting, and a fuck you to whichever idiots at apple decided this was a good idea.

Ok so it turns out I was wrong about this, there was another variable and its actually WORSE. You need to turn off reactions using the green camera icon PER APPLICATION.

So Signal, Telegram, Whatsapp, Zoom, Teams, Chrome, Firefox, etc - anywhere you use video feed and don't want stupid reactions overlaid on your face you have to turn this off separately.

@sjef I like to imagine confetti and hearts festooned the Facetime calls last week between Apple and their lawyers, when they discussed how they were going to settle a class action suit against Tim Cook for defrauding shareholders, and agreed to pay $490,000,000.
