Remnants of an old Chinese restaurant, which has been shut down years ago. The lions remain – and look more and more ancient by the day as the dust buildup gets thicker and thicker. The stool and the ashtray belong to the casino, which has its door to the right. Usually there are people out here smoking. Not today though.

I don't care for the political ones – those are mostly ugly anyway (some are hard to argue with, though), but rather the completely random ones, that I have no idea why anyone would print and spread them or what they even mean.

I started laying out all these 366 project photos in a magazine. I would really love to print them in one form or another, once this is done. The sheer number of images at the end of the 366 days won't fit into one, single magazine, so I am thinking quarterly, maybe? A set of four magazines, with approx. 120 pages each. Sounds about right.

Do you, dear reader, still have a Flickr account? I used to be Pro subscriber, but cancelled a couple of years back, when I decided to rather post my images here. Every now and then I get reminded that it still exists, when they threaten to delete my images. Anyways, it seems none of my photos are publicly visible anymore… I myself am able to view all of my 5k+ photos just fine. Can anyone with a login confirm whether my images are visible if you are logged in?

Observing color. An interesting thing happened, since I started laying out all of the images of this 366 project in a magazine: Every other day, while taking photographs, I am considering if the subject in front of my lens will fit next to the image of the previous day. Unfortunately it doesn't in most cases so far, and now I am aware of it… This definitely adds another dimension to the whole process and makes it much more challenging. (As if it wasn't hard enough already!)

Went to the climbing gym today with the whole family. Found out that my wife might indeed be spider woman. (Definitely very talented when it comes to climbing, which I never saw her do before. Because, when do you actually need to climb in everyday life… ?) The kids had fun as well, so I guess we will be back there soon. 🙂

Found this poor thing on the stairs leading from the basement to the backyard. It looks like it has been lying there for quite some time. I guess it is a squirrel? (We have lots of those in the trees around our house.) No idea how it died. Probably not from falling off the roof… Maybe the neighbors' cat got it? Jack is a proper predator, catching birds, squirrels and even small rabits all the time. He is so deadly in fact, that during bird breeding season he is only allowed into the backyard on a leash.

A gray parrot looking at me. These birds a so fascinating to me. I think if I had to choose a pet, I'd probably go with some kind of bird. (Generally I am of the opintion that most people should not have pets.) I always thought they looked quite misserable in their cages, but learned that Gruga is a sanctuary, which explains why some of the birds seem to be in pretty rough shape. So while still living in a cage, most of them probably came from even smaller ones to begin with.

We visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi yesterday. I have been here before, nine years ago. What an utterly different experience it was! Back then, there was no registration, no visitor center (with StarBucks and McDonald's, basically a full-fledged mall below the mosque!), and no people. Well, at least not that many! It's Ramadan, so a lot of visitors are expected, but the sheer amount of tourists really shocked me. That being said: This place is still amazing and worth a visit, even with that many people around. The guy in the last picture asked me to take his photo, because I had a proper camera. He is from Pakistan and his friend Sajawl (you can see him on the left, grinning) gave me his WhatsApp contact, so I can send them the images.

We went to the top of the Burj Khalifa yesterday. Again, I did the same nine years ago, but since then they added one more level (well three, 152-154) for visitors – with an open (!), outside balcony, which means you do not have to photograph through glass. Unfortunately visibility wasn't good, but the experience was still pretty great. We spent at least three hours at the top – there is also a very nice all you can eat/drink buffet included. Choosing the highest level also affords you the advantage of skipping all the lines going up (and down!). I'd say the (fairly high) admission price is worth it. Would recommend.

My parents. I took this photo on our way back to the hotel on the last night of our trip. Not sure I mentioned any details about going to Dubai, besides it being my mom's 70th birthday. I went with my parents and my sister. This has been the first trip of just us four in probably 25 years and it was great. This marks a quarter of the 366 project done! Time is flying. It will be another 60 days until this becomes the second longest streak on this blog. I enjoy posting here immensely, even though I did not produce any new (shareworthy) images in the last couple of days due to being sick. Anyways, looking forward to getting back to the regular old photos from home and around the neighborhood tomorrow.

There is the inevitable clash after a couple of hours, but I guess that is expected, especially at that age.
