once again pretty annoyed at tinyletter for shutting down & having to spend my sunday sorting out mailing list shit again.
and while we're at it: annoyed at all the spammy developments that make it impossible to maintain a mailing list by just using bcc.

so, anybody have a free email list service they like using? only sending out a few small messages a year to not-crazy-huge list.

emailoctopus is like a multi-page process to draft a message "campaign."
mailbob won't let me turn off the avatar feature.
steady won't even let me add subscribers, which i appreciate conceptually but doesn't seem like a good way to run a mailing list.

this is actually kind of maddening trying to find a bare bones email list service to replace tinyletter. everything is multi-page campaigns with analytics & i just want the equivalent of a text field with bcc (that doesn't cost $100 a year for ~750 subscribers).
oy, and are people still boycotting substack? i can't even tell anymore. dude's just looking for a functional email app.
@bourgwick they came out and said they’re actually NOT supporting nazi’s, so that was good enough for me - the never ending corporate purity tests are too exhausting to keep up with.
@bourgwick it’s true, there really isn’t one as far as I know.
@longrally it's making me want to throw a brick through a window. besides buttondown, are there others that are bare bones? anything with more than fields for the subject + body of message is too much for me. i'm willing to actually pay money if these WWW sites just stop asking me questions.
I really don't think there are other bare bones options similar to tinyletter. I like Ghost but it is not what you want and it's v expensive. There's probably a roll-your-own alternative, somewhere, somehow. I just haven't figured it out yet! Have you looked at Odoo (I haven't), but it's open source & free. https://www.odoo.com/app/email-marketing

@scully unfortunately turns to a paid subscription once over 100 subscribers.
@bourgwick ahh. Thought you really meant small. I have no answer. Everything I have seen is subscription or owned by an billionaire
@scully yes, it's quite small, but over 100.
@bourgwick Years ago I used Mailer Lite with a non-profit with whom I volunteered. Free up to 1000 subs.
@bourgwick Wish I had an answer, but when you figure it out, please feel free to add my name. I'm DMing you my email addy.
@bourgwick
Have not used it, but some people seem to rate this highly:
