I just love that the GOP Response to the SOTU just had to clear the bar of "act like a normal person" and they couldn't find a single person in the party who could do it.
@rodhilton Like what was up with the off-camera laughing and her breaking character at the beginning of her tearful talk? So amateurish.

@rodhilton * OK, $35 insulin, I don't think Biden deserves credit for that, but I'll grudgingly clap along because maybe people who aren't millionaires like me might like that I guess. *

(Not the same thing as what you are talking about, but the lack of applause for basic things we should all be happy about is shocking to me.)

Katie Britt’s Strange Speech

Before last night, the Alabama senator had distinguished herself with a reputation for being, well, normal.

The Atlantic
@paninid it was creepy and cringe

@scottmiller42 @rodhilton

Not to mention the expression of boredom & disgust on the Speaker (haven't bothered to remember his name)'s face.

It's kind of brilliant, actually, they way they frame the shot, so you can watch the contrasting reactions between the VP & the Speaker. Such an elegant way to display the differences in attitude & orientation (not to mention intent) between the parties.

@rodhilton

Dear GOP,

Maude Flanders was not the "hero" of The Simpsons.

If every time she bleated "Won't somebody think of the children?", you grumbled "dang right", you missed the point.

Sincerely,
The 90s

P.S. "Itchy and Scratchy" were intentionally overly violent. Your letters of complaint did nothing.

@rodhilton they did that with Bobby Jindal too. I'd seen him on some news show and disagreed with him politically but thought he sounded really intelligent and debate worthy. Then he did the SOTU rebuttal and got coached to sound like Kenneth
@ogbog @rodhilton The real problem is no one had to coach Katie to sound like a submissive handmaiden.
@rodhilton she’s “normal” for a large enough portion of the GOP though, no?

@rodhilton Jess Piper nails it with her explanation of “baby fundie voice”

https://jesspiper.substack.com/p/the-fundie-baby-voice

Anyone who grew up in the South knows that voice, from *many* White Christian moms

For those of us who experienced regular trauma from racism, sexism, and LGBT hatred, it was pretty terrifying

I expect the GOP to try to spin any criticism as misogyny or sexism, but they’re dead wrong of course

The Fundie Baby Voice

As soon as Senator Katie Britt started speaking, I knew exactly who she is. She is so many of the pastor's wives and Sunday School teachers I knew growing up in an Evangelical church. Be sweet. Obey.

The View from Rural Missouri by Jess Piper

@rodhilton

What I have found interesting is that ... they were trying to appeal to women w/ their full-on embrace of Christian-woman-in-the-kitchen, subservient vibe. They DID exactly that!

Dems (& anyone w/any respect for women) hated it for obvious reasons.

BUT their misogynist base hated it too! Not because of the disrespect for women--but because it wasn't "masculine enough" for them.

She was their "ideal" woman & they hate her for it. And that fully sums up the Right's view of women.

@rodhilton

Why on earth did the GOP think a "Stepford Wives" re-enactor would help their cause?

Britt got her job by funding from bigoted billionaires like Tim Dunn who believe women shouldn't have any role in public life, not even voting.

The phony crying. The baby voice. The kitchen as a backdrop. The obvious inadequacy of her post-secondary education. Her limited reading.
The quisling servile manner. The fake costume of "dedicated Christian Dominionist mom" .

@rodhilton republican voters hate America and want a dictator so we can be broke like Russia
@rodhilton Mate, the situation the US is in right now, that reflects ‘normal.’ If otherwise, it’s because of empty vessels making the most noise, or pebbles being rattled in a can. The US did this to itself. Don’t give me the ‘where normal, they’re not’ bs. Wackjobs, crims, bigots and gun loving sociopaths are running the show. That’s apparently normal.
@rodhilton #stepfordkatie saying the Afghanistan tragedy was Biden’s fault is like saying the explosion and fire that resulted because the evicted tenant soaked the house in gasoline and turned on all the stove gas valves before leaving was the fault of the new renter.
