@jlou @aeleoglyphic Upon looking it up just now, I probably should have *also* picked syndicalism. Not as an end goal, but as one potential means to accomplish mutualism. I envision a market based economy composed of cooperatives, rather than for-profit corporations, but the hard part is how to push that transition forward. One avenue would be through laws that promote new businesses to form as cooperatives or to embrace "exit to community" over IPO as an exit strategy. Another would be for consumers to boycott for-profit businesses. A third would be for unions to dominate for-profit corporations to the point that they gain complete control and it is in the shareholders' best interest to sell ownership to the union. Now I have a word for this last avenue.

Second avenue:

I mean... this can be started today...
How many people in this comment section have their money in a credit union (cool and good) as opposed to a bank (🤢)?

Third ave.:
While I think this is a good idea, and I support it, I (personally) do not (would not) put much effort behind this idea, as unions (trade unions especially) have been liberalized (read: defanged, corrupted, *enshittified*, subsumed, perverted) back into/under capitalism.
However, to each their own: this is my experience in my region of earth.

First ave.:
Well... I mean... Corbyn.......... never came to power.... I don't put much stock in laws - but for sure the maneuver itself does sound pretty cool (aside from the appeal to authority).

@Flare @jlou @aeleoglyphic I actually do use a credit union. I could do better being selective about the other places my money goes. I made a post recently about boycotting profit. I think ultimately this is the most effective option, if only people can be stirred up to embrace it. It's the cultural shift, more than anything, which is the most vital ingredient.

That's also why I'm a big fan of Mastodon. It's a cooperative/social/bottom-up system by nature, thanks to its federated structure. This gives people a real world taste of what socialist systems have to offer. If only they realized where that delicious flavor is coming from, they'd me more inclined to season everything with it.

#BoycottProfit

@hosford42 @jlou @aeleoglyphic

For sure, but even amidst all these “choices” each purchase gets funneled up to like 3-6 companies.
However, at least in my area, I've noticed some cracks in the concrete: a small coffee shop here sells mennonite baked goods, a little outdoors store over there sells home made lip chap.

Things are opening up, for sure for sure.

Agency, Autonomy, alternatives.

Beyond a call to #BoycottProfit, I would instead posit to counter all of the #ClimateDenier rhetoric by becoming a #ProfitDenier.

Open up every front against capital!
