The SCOTUS says you can't remove an alleged insurrectionist from state ballots.

And pretty soon the SCOTUS will say you cannot prosecute a former president for insurrection because he is immune from prosecution.

I sure don't want people in power getting to declare *by fiat* who is and isn't allowed to run for office.

I don't understand the hysteria about this ruling.

(a) Section 3 of the 14th is poorly written and is so unclear as to the "how" that no other conclusion by any SCOTUS was ever imaginable.

(b) But anyway even if you disagree with (a), reality is that only blue states that Trump won't win were ever going to remove him from ballots. So him getting to 270 is not impacted by this ruling.

@QasimRashid I listened to an interesting podcast on the changing interpretation of the first amendment. I think that this wishy-washy stuff happens when you have an old Constitution with little practical means of updating it. People start treating it like a theological document and the Justices become priests. The constitution means whatever the court says it means last.
