Sad to hear they're discontinuing work on the Apple car
@TheBreadmonkey Busytown!

@sydney

THAT'S what it's from. I remembered the image, but not the book. Loved that book. I just googled worm apple car and copied the first image!

@TheBreadmonkey I enjoyed reading the books and playing the computer game when I was a small (:

Such wholesome stuff from a kind and creative mind

@TheBreadmonkey @sydney @RealGene I absolutely adore Richard Scarry, loved his work as a child and enjoyed sharing it with own children. You can be sure that when my grandbabies get big enough they will be introduced to Busytown
@TheBreadmonkey (This is Richard Scarry's character Lowly Worm btw. โ˜บ๏ธ)
@TheBreadmonkey they were 50 years too late to steal a march on the fruit based car!
@Rob_l @TheBreadmonkey @darac Green lettering? I guess it's not Edd's, his has blue writing! ;)
@chloeraccoon @TheBreadmonkey @darac no, Edd wasn't born when these came out. They made a few for promotional work in the 70s based on minis.
@Rob_l @TheBreadmonkey @darac Yes, Edd has restored one. His has blue lettering though
@chloeraccoon @TheBreadmonkey @darac thanks, didn't realise. Only really followed him when he started out as he lived down the road from us, started on Beetles, then the sofa....
@Rob_l @TheBreadmonkey @darac He made videos about on his youtube channel, his had a steering fault, if you let go of the wheel, it would shoot off left (into a field..). It was interesting to see. Plus of course, for Edd, he can't complain about the head room! ;)
@chloeraccoon @TheBreadmonkey @darac I'll have to take a look later, thank you for that. There was one at Beaulieu motor museum we saw on a school trip, I'm guessing Edd probably did too being a car nut, and not far from the new forest.
@TheBreadmonkey Egon der Wurm! I like! (Richard Scarry's character is named : Egon the worm in the German Edition)
@TheBreadmonkey @drmeiwu If you want a shock, look up how much that watch he's wearing will cost you today (it's a Seiko Voice Note M516-4009).

@BigJackBrass @drmeiwu

๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿคฏ

@TheBreadmonkey @drmeiwu Gotta be worth it for 8 seconds of voice recording ๐Ÿ˜
@TheBreadmonkey Oh, I remember reading that book as a kid :)

@aral

It seems that it's recognised by people all over the world. I just found out the Germans call this little guy Egon the Worm!

@TheBreadmonkey Haha. I did go to British schools in Malaysia so this was in our (lovely little) school library in my first school.
@TheBreadmonkey oh I remember that picture of my childhood ๐Ÿ˜€
@TheBreadmonkey aaand after some research it was a book of Richard Scarry, loved it when I was a toddler....in the 70'...Thank you. ๐Ÿ™‚
@TheBreadmonkey What the fuck this just brought me so much nostalgia
@TheBreadmonkey no fancy transportation for lowly worms like us!
@TheBreadmonkey I heard it was a problem with the worm drive.....
@TheBreadmonkey
What a Scarry thing to cancel.

@TheBreadmonkey

Because we needed yet another EV that most of the population can't afford.

@TheBreadmonkey

My first thought on seeing that picture: "where's Goldbug?"

@TheBreadmonkey

me driving to my shitty job because society refuses to collapse

@amiserabilist

This song was the baseline inner music in my head for LITERALLY YEARS - I'd totally forgotten until I heard it and now it's infected me once again. NOOOOOOOOOOO.

@TheBreadmonkey We can still wear green hats and bow ties in our Teslas, right?
@TheBreadmonkey @stux Ah, Richard Scarryโ€™s โ€œDen travle byโ€. I remember these books from when I was child ~50y ago. I found a book and read it to my own children 10y ago, and they also enjoyed it (briefly, before returning to their tablets ๐Ÿ˜‚). They seem to be called โ€œThe busy worldโ€ in English. The books, not my children ๐Ÿ™„
@TheBreadmonkey what is the name of this lovely children's book? I think I might have had this one!
