Assume for the moment we know this will happen (or maybe you think it is happening)...
What can we do to stop each step of this?
Eric Forste@brewsterkahle If that's the way you see things, then obviously the thing to do is to slow down and maybe ultimately prevent the climate disruption. But that's what Greta Thunberg has been saying, and no one pays attention to her.
This exercise, called scenario planning, is to take a possible future, then say for the moment "we know it is going to happen... so what do we do now".
so for the purpose of the exercise, we dont have to answer "do I think this will happen?"
Then we run this for other possible futures. Some steps are in common, and some are nobrainers...

@brewsterkahle That's an excellent response, which I'm going to give further thought to, and I thank you for, but it feels a bit dismissive of what I was actually saying. I respect Thunberg's opinions myself, what little I know of their actual content.
@brewsterkahle Okay, taking the spirit of the exercise more seriously: back in the early 1980s, USA, UK, Canada, and probably several other countries got rid of progressive taxation of income, which the USA had for over 60 years before then. A lot of this feedback cycle results from the increasing concentration of wealth in the hands of a very few, so bringing back progressive taxation, ending fiscal dumping, and other measures proposed by Thomas Piketty would probably be a great start.

other ages evolved stability via 25-50 year scheduled debt forgiveness systems (Jubilees, and resets upon new monarchs) and peaceful wealth redistribution (progressive taxation)

"Refugees" is an extreme of wealth inequality thus 'strong men'
Beeks@arkiuat @brewsterkahle stopping climate disruption is no longer an available option. In fact climate disruption is already very much here. So are many strongman, conflicts, and refugees.
My initial thought would be that you can't prevent conflict or help refugees with strongmen in charge so eliminating/preventing them is not just the best way forward, but the only viable one.
Of course the counter would be: without a strongman can you effectively defend from another? I'd hope so, but 🤷🏼♂️

@Beeks Stopping it may no longer be an option, but preventing it from being much worse than it will get if we continue to do as little as we have been doing is still very much an urgent option. @brewsterkahle @arkiuat
@arkiuat @brewsterkahle if I get a hold of a nuke I'll drop it on Davos. Outside of that I have no idea how we prevent it from continuing on the same course straight towards extinction.

Mind you, no good deed goes unpunished. Making things work well so that local people are happy can get you in prison.
