I would be firmly on team "I am Australian" as a national anthem for #Australia, but so much of that song is in the wonderful inclusive verses. Whilst it's entirely possible for a national anthem to have 5 (or however many it is closing) verses, normally only one verse is sung. No one verse really makes sense.

I continue to think "I'm the one who waltzed matilda" is a fantastic lyric

@lachlan The proposition for anthem that always makes me groan is Waltzing Matilda.

Yeah, ok, you want a song about a sheep thief that commits suicide as your national anthem?

(Not that many of the other suggestions are any good, either)

@DarkestKale Waltzing Matilda comes from people who don't read the lyrics. "ITS ABOUT REBELLION INIT!?".

Of all the bad choices, it's the worst.

I really think "I am Australian" would be my choice, but I can't see it not getting ruined to avoid conservatives not wanting to sing the 'I came from the dreamtime' verse

@DarkestKale One reply wasn't enough.

Seriously - it's such a bad choice, and such a popular one. I want to sing about a dude who commits suicide rather than face justice as a definition of what it means to be Australian.

It's the same people that defines Australiana as 'Struggling in the bush' - which has always irritated me, because it's not my experience of Australia.

There is a distant candidate that should be considered though...
