What search engine do you use/recommend?

Trying to find a good one, currently using Ecosia which is great but looking for a change.

#SearchEngine #AskFedi #PleaseBoost

Well after only 1 hour, I have two that I'm considering using.
DuckDuckGo (which I used to use, ages ago)
And @Mojeek which seems really great and they've got a Fedi presence which is amazing.

@orbitalmartian

Still liking #DuckDuckGo, but I think @Mojeek is worth a look.
They have a great presence on #Fedi.

@RL_Dane #DuckDuckGo is not a search engine; it’s a proxy for an engine (Bing). #DDG is a Microsoft syndicate that should be avoided:

Not to mention Microsoft should be avoided anyway by anyone who boycotts Israel.

Best search svc for me is #Ombrelo as it downranks Cloudflare sites. Walled gardens should not be at the top of the page. Though it’s not an engine.

A new emerging one is #stract.com which is a true search engine (in-house crawler).

Why You Should Avoid DuckDuckGo (DDG) 2021 Edition, Now Microsoft-Hosted and With Extra Privacy Risks

@Mojeek @kritikaPensulo @RL_Dane I try to steer away from politics leading my choices, if it works then it works, if not then it doesn’t.

By search engine I want something that I can search the web and come up with an answer that I need, not absolute random stuff like smaller engines give (mostly just smallweb sites).

@orbitalmartian svmetasearch as default although it's in Polish. for english queries just plain&evil duckduckgo/google

@orbitalmartian

I've been impressed by Luxxle (https://luxxle.com).

@orbitalmartian Duck Duck Go ddg.gg for privacy. If it can’t answer then use the Google bang !g to send your search to Google, or !b or !w
@orbitalmartian startpage. Google results (mostly) without the BS.
@orbitalmartian DDG has been reliable to get stuff quick and dirty. If I'm researching, then maybe google or brave because it gets more quality results. I've been rate limited from a VPN connection from them which is annoying to do a captcha.
@orbitalmartian I've been using ddg for almost 10 years now, and I'm pretty happy with it.
@octothorpe Nah, needs to be free, not a stupid subscription model.
@orbitalmartian qwant , for me it's better than DDG
