The way that #Firefox 's reader view makes ad ridden websites usable again.. *chefs kiss
@Gina it's been a hundred years since I browsed the web without uBlock Origin. It's just too bad otherwise.
@nvsr Oh lol that's why, I forgot to install an adblocker 😂 First day on a back-up laptop because my fancy Dell laptop is being repaired again.
@Gina praying for your sanity in this ad infested world 🙏
@Gina @nvsr even with an ad blocker, the Reader mode makes websites much more readable: no shitty design, no cookie banner, no modal to ask you if you want notifications or share your location, no modal to ask you if you are still there, no automatic refresh while reading…
The only issue is that some websites seem to making big efforts to break this feature, probably because they don’t like the fact we can’t see ads…

@Gina I had to use someone’s windows laptop the other day and I have no idea how anyone is meant to use the internet / YouTube on such things these days!! 🤷🏻🤦🏻‍♂️

Firefox / uBlock / Privacy Badger / ProtonVPN with Netshield is the only way to go - I’ve not see an Ad in years 😃🎉

@Gina What about uBlock Origin?
@ninokadic Forgot to install it, def helps 😅
@Gina I kind of knew about the reader view, yet your toot reminded me about this feature and it was a gamechanger. What I do first on any website is to look for *the* icon. Thanks Gina, you made my life better!
@Gina OMG the number of banners on that page 😱🤢
@Gina Good point! Hadn't thought about this to be honest. But then again I got fed up with the amount of ads and pop ups as well as the 'unbelievable' amount of cookies and permissions needed to visit many sites I reverted to using RSS readers for my daily intake of sites that I visit daily (NewsFlash on Ubuntu, Feeder on GraphineOS Pixel and Newsbeuter at the Linux terminal). The Reader view is a great option for those ad-hoc sites I need to visit, thanks! :)
@Gina I found one trick with the reader mode. You can read full articles on some websites that hide the content behind sign-in and pay popup messages because the reader mode ignores that message and apparently full text is already provided to you. If I’m not mistaken, it worked with New York Times and Washington Post. Sometimes it displays only the preview part, but if you reload the page in the reader mode then it can load a full version. But let’s keep it secret, okay 🤫
