I strongly believe that "Secret Weird Things People Do" is highly related to "Things It Took You Too Long to Realize," and Siracusa does not.

Also, we need to hire a more competent person to name our bits.

“You tell me…” is the way I alert my co-hosts that I’m about to speak for 15 minutes.

“Real quick…Tailscale…”

Woof.

@hotdogsladies one of my favourite podcasts (except for yours, of course) is an edited version of a radio programme and their version of “things it took you too long to realise” is called “idiotic eureka moments”.
@Diggory @hotdogsladies ah, a fellow long time reader I see!

@hotdogsladies @RecDiffs @siracusa

A thing it took me too long to realise:

Taxis in the UK have a yellow light-up taxi sign above the windscreen. When the light’s on, the taxi’s available; when the light’s off, it’s occupied.

It took me well into my twenties to realise this, and I still see grown adults trying to hail a taxi with the light off.

@hotdogsladies both could be called “Unknown Unknowns Now Known”

Please don’t hire me.

@hotdogsladies as only one relatively simple example of this type of relationship, until a thing becomes the latter, it is at high risk of being the former. See wiping.
@hotdogsladies Here’s one that could maybe fall under both? Today I learned that most people (other than me) do not pronounce the “l” in “calm” and “palm” - apparently it’s silent!? 50 years on this planet and I always thought people who said “kahm” had some sort of accent or speech impediment.
