I'm still under the weather (enough to get another 3 days of sick leave from the doc 🤧), but thinking of dear friends old and new (and hoping none of you are suffering in misery like me 🤪).
While I have a new friend to keep me company, I haven't mustered enough energy to play with them yet... which is so out of character for me coz usually I'd be jumping on such a new friend 😍

L-R 3rd, 7th, and 11th gen. We can refresh our laptops every 3 years but I think 4 years is the sweet spot (for me).
what kind of shutdown issue? I've had battery issues, and resume from sleep issues (mostly related to reconnecting with external monitors) but nothing major.
@cybette The kind of when I reboot or shutdown, the OS seems to shutdown but it never actually shutdown the computer. I need to press the power button 10s to force it.
I've not this issue with Debian, Ubuntu or openSUSE, only with Fedora.
hmm that's interesting. I don't think I've come across it. Is it for a specific version of Fedora or just in general?

Funny thing is I skipped F38 and went from F37 -> F39. I do have trouble resuming from longer sleep sometimes in earlier versions, and have to hold the power button 10s to reboot. But as far as I can recall, when I shut it down it always shuts down.
I’ve been having this issue for some time now, so I have decided to adress it. As follows: When shutting the system down through the GUI (by clicking shutdown in the drop-down of GNOME), sometimes the system will shut down completely, except for both the laptop and one of my peripherals staying on. The screen will shut off and I am unable to do anything. Not even a mouse cursor will appear. The keyboard will be powered off, along with my mouse. I think it was a T30, not 100% sure, but I remember it had an optical drive built in :) Followed by T43, which iirc was the last "IBM" ThinkPad.
I'd love to see your collection sometime! Too bad mine have mostly been laptops assigned for work and I had to return them.
And yes, the old design rocks!
@cybette The T30 is really interesting. The only model with a Pentium 4 in the T series. Great design with the 45 degrees corner in the upper left corner. Hard to get these days. I have three broken ones that I’m trying to convert to one working.
Also really like the 15“ variant of the T43p. Timeless classic. :)
