Nationwide there are emergency protests to decry the slaughter of innocent civilians in Rafah last night.

In NYC protesters are marching in the streets against police orders. The crowds are so big the cops are making arrests but it has done little to slow tonights demo.

Earlier in the day the NYPD seized more than a half-dozen cars that were slowing traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge. Despite take several cars, the protest persisted.

At the march tonight they are seeing a ton of arrests, but the crowd remains nimble and energized.

The crowd just keeps moving after most arrests, leaving the NYPD to scramble to catch up again.

'genocide is good' ass-looking ass

@caffetiel @nullagent I dispute that Israel is committing genocide. Not all warfare, especially defensive warfare, is genocide. Israel is engaging in warfare after having been attacked. Even the ICJ, an arm of the anti-Israel UN, stopped short of calling Israel's actions genocide. This genocide claim plays right into the propaganda of Hamas (along with Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Iran).

@escarpment @nullagent

Do you buy the US's self-defense arguments regarding the 'War on Terror'? The 'pre-emptive strike' on Iraq in 03? Do twelve hundred civs buy the deaths of more than twenty thousand?

The UN sanctioned the founding of Israel. It is not by any measure an 'anti-Israel' institution, especially given the roles played by Israel-supporting states in senior membership and leadership. Don't play.

Nor do I really care what the ICJ says. Law is only a measure of power.

@escarpment @nullagent

Frankly, the only question before anyone is this: is ethnic cleansing wrong or is it perfectly justifiable?

@caffetiel @nullagent No, because Israel is not engaging in ethnic cleansing. Israel's enemies ethnically cleansed Jews from their countries and they had to flee to Israel. The Palestinian project from the early 1900's has been to repel violently Jewish people from the area, whereas the Jewish people want to (and do) coexist with numerous races and religions.

@escarpment @nullagent

cool cool cool cool cool an ethnic cleansing for an ethnic cleansing leaves the whole world cleaner, I guess.

Note that you didn't answer my questions. Any of them. Do so at your nearest convenience.

@caffetiel @nullagent Well, there is selective outrage. There is apparently no outrage for all the countries that ethnically cleansed and continue to ethnically cleanse Jews from their ranks. There is no UN Human Rights Council standing agenda item for the rights of Jews in Iran, Yemen, Libya, or Lebanon. No handwringing to right historical wrongs there. Yet, Israel's enemies have the gall to accuse Israel of that which they all want to do: ethnically cleanse the world of Jewish people.

@escarpment @nullagent

The UN supports Israeli statehood, which is in fact the standing UN decision to right historical wrongs. The Farhud and its contemporaries created the problem the same states that did them bitch about, but that doesn't mean one ethnicity gets to militarily oust people and bulldoze their homes without condemnation.

@escarpment @nullagent

The Spanish should be paying reparations for the expulsion. The French the same. The English the same. Germany and Poland and Hungary will never be done atoning for their crimes.

What does that have to do with people whose whole lives have seen them never have the power to do anything except fire bottle rockets, though?

@caffetiel @nullagent About the UN, I assure you it has an anti Israel bias. It is plain as day. All you have to do is count. Just count the number of resolutions. Pick a random meeting of the UN from a random year and check what percentage of the resolutions mention Israel in a condemnatory tone.

https://www.ohchr.org/en/hr-bodies/hrc/regular-sessions/session31/list-reports

In this random session, reports 40 through 44 condemn Israel. As does 73. Try searching for Russia, Ethiopia, Somalia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Yemen on that page.

@caffetiel @nullagent Palestinians and their allies in Yemen, Lebanon, and Syria continue to violently attack Israel. As long as that continues to happen, Israel must defend itself. Protests should be reserved for protesting Palestinian, Lebanese, Syrian, and Yemeni violence against Israel. As soon as these violent actors choose to reject violence and invest the generous global aid they receive in humanitarian endeavors, there can be peace.

@escarpment @nullagent

How many kids are firing off rockets under the government that was propped up by Likud's coalition?

Intentionally denying stability to Palestine creates violence. Are you going to defend yourself against Netanyahu's family, too? Extended family? Neighbors?

https://www.timesofisrael.com/for-years-netanyahu-propped-up-hamas-now-its-blown-up-in-our-faces/

For years, Netanyahu propped up Hamas. Now it’s blown up in our faces

The premier's policy of treating the terror group as a partner, at the expense of Abbas and Palestinian statehood, has resulted in wounds that will take Israel years to heal from

The Times of Israel
@caffetiel @nullagent This idea that Netanyahu created Hamas is bogus hyperbole, and always relegated to the *opinion* pages of newspapers. It is true that Israel has occasionally engaged in realpolitik and attempted to meddle in Palestinian affairs to advance Israeli interests. Diplomatic meddling often has unintended consequences. However, Hamas (a large contingent of Palestinians ideologically committed to violent overthrow of Israel) had to exist in the first place.
@caffetiel @nullagent At certain points in history, it seemed prudent to Israeli administrators to favor Hamas over Fatah under the mistaken belief that Hamas was the lesser of two evils. Fatah invented global terrorism, so it didn't seem like anyone could be worse than them. Then Hamas said "watch us" and deployed suicide bombers, some of whom were children.

@escarpment @nullagent

Created? You really aren't engaging with any degree of honesty, are you?

You denied ethnic cleansing until you couldn't, at which point you stopped responding at all. You're currently undoing all the normalizing of relations between Israel and surrounding Muslim states, and of course that's not your fault, is it? The Houthis didn't do shit about Israel until now but apparently we should condemn them not for being fascists but for responding to an explicit genocide.

@caffetiel @nullagent I personally condemn the Houthis for employing child soldiers, having their official motto include "a curse upon the Jews", killing political dissidents, and running a repressive police state.
@caffetiel @nullagent The normalizing with surrounding Muslim states is good progress. Israel has always wanted peace with its neighbors, but these states have to abandon, to some extent, their backwards ideology and accept Israel's right to exist and Jewish people's right to exist.
@caffetiel @nullagent The UN is indeed anti-Israel. Check the number of resolutions that condemn Israel vs the number that condemn any other nation, combined. Last I checked it was 2-1 Israel to all other countries combined. The UN "Human Rights" Council has a standing agenda item to discuss Israel at every meeting (and not Russia, China, or Saudi Arabia).

@caffetiel @nullagent The UN passed (and later rescinded) the "Zionism is racism" declaration, without declaring national pride in any other nation as racism. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_General_Assembly_Resolution_3379

Much of the anti-Israel sentiment which you and these protestors throw around is verbatim from some of this anti-Israel agitation at the UN.
