Who in #LawFedi is interested in defamation? There's a case, filed by counsel in Delaware Chancery Wednesday, accusing a reporter of defamation by reporting on the allegations in a federal court complaint.
@sqfreak oh man that's not going anywhere.
@annmlipton No, it's borderline frivolous. The article is extremely clear that these are the allegations in the lawsuit (which he's entitled to report on under the fair reporting privilege) and the statement about scams existing in cryptocurrency is sourced in part to a Gary Gensler speech and is clearly giving context to the claims made, not accusing plaintiff of doing anything improper. If this were actionable, every article about a complaint where defendant denies the allegations would be.
@sqfreak what part of my comment did you interpret as disagreeing with that?
@annmlipton None. I was agreeing with you that it's not going anywhere. My use of the word "no" as an introduction may have been confusing. I apologize for that.
@annmlipton I meant to say something like, "No, it's not going anywhere. It's borderline frivolous...." But there's a character limit and my message was not clear.
@sqfreak nope my bad again i apologize for misinterpreting
@sqfreak hah no worries, sorry for misinterpreting
