Now that Bluesky is open to everyone someone desperately needs to build a good client. The posts there are so damn good, but reading them is an absolute nightmare, hopefully someone like @MonaApp takes a crack at it. 🙏🏼
@mergesort what gives you hope that it won’t turn into Twitter 2.0? That is why I don’t have an account.
@steveriggins There's nothing stopping any platform from becoming Twitter 2.0, but it has completely different primitives than Twitter. It's built on a completely open protocol with an open ecosystem that's already more vast than ActivityPub, and by combining custom feeds and composable moderation you have a lot of control over your own experience.
@mergesort @steveriggins In what way is it "more vast than Activitypub"? It's one service with one app - and Mastodon alone has more active users than Bluesky. (Plus Activitypub actually have other services as well. 🙃)
@havn @steveriggins That's a fair callout, I consider custom feeds and filters to be a part of the ecosystem. For example I'm using a custom For You feed that is being used by ~20,000 other people, but there are also tens of thousands of other feeds that provide different experiences of the AT world. Building that on top of ActivityPub is harder because many decisions are made at the app/server/platform layer, where my preferred choice is to let those decisions happen per individual.
@mergesort show me the api docs!

@mergesort I’m sorta considering reviving my Twitter client Leaf and just converting it to ATP. Even already forked it and made a resources folder in Arc for docs…. But motivation to start is 🫠🫠🫠
@via Pleaaaase, have three motivation. Is that enough?
@mergesort sorry no can do I need at least 4.5 motivations
@via Gimme a few so I can ask around for couple more.
@mergesort @MonaApp yeah, not only on the Smartphone, but also on pc Bluesky still is so horrible to navigate. Unfortunately Mona is not available for windows.
@mergesort I started working on one, but i just didn’t think it would be worth the time it would take to build and maintain

@BenRiceM I think with it having close to 5 Million users and 1M signups on day 1 of opening it might be a lot more attractive to build one now.

Really hopeful that a good ios client pops up somewhere because the 1st party app really is horrid...

@mergesort @MonaApp Totally agree—SkyBridge is nice in the interim to be able to use your Bluesky account with Mona (it even syncs your timeline position between Mac and iOS!), but nothing beats the real thing.
@_Jordan @MonaApp I’d been using SkyBridge but I started hitting server limits every day since the service's usage cap is global. 😕
