PoesieSaw another larger fallen bunya pine and couldn't resist. Foraged it and the one i saw yesterday as well. Going to try prepping them today, hopefully.
Bunya nuts extracted from the cone (pretty easy though hands got a little sticky so maybe wear gloves if your skin is sensitive). Now on the boil.
Saw another vid that said discard the ones that float because they won't have enough nut to be worth it. Over 90% of mine float so does not bode well. Not discarding them at this point.
Curious to see how they work out.
Still not ready (bunya nuts are meant to open a little at one end). Water has changed colour though.

One bunya nut out of all those turned out. And it was yummy. Nutty but also a bit like a really nice potato chip or roast potato. Going to try again and hope for more nuts working out.

The nuts that didn't turn out were brown inside and squishy. Bit sad i won't have enough to make anything. But it's been exciting just having a go.

Managed to get 1 more decent bunya nut out of that lot. Tasted yummy enough will be on the lookout for more dropping down.
Bonus! A few more didn't open themselves but i used a crab crusher thingie to get them out. The bunya nuts were still perfectly good on these ones.

@CaraBruar maybe illegal (though could be argued doing a community service stopping them dropping on folks). Degree of difficulty with climbing may be beyond me at this point in my life alas.
@psychopoesie i know what you mean. Sometimes quite simple actions defeat me. For some reason our clothesline is incredibly high, i have to throw things over the lines. I can only do that with my right arm as the left shoulder won't cooperate. Changes are being planned to this useless system.
