Next stop in the #fedivoyage!

This time: #mobilizon. It's for "event planning and group management" and is an alternative to meetup and eventbrite, according to Wikipedia. Wikipedia also says that there's federation to e.g. Mastodon – let's see!

Very fitting fun fact: a typical part of the domains for mobilizon instances seems to be "fomo" :>

A first look at the fediverse observer suggests that it's mainly used by southwest european people – at least by looking at the biggest instances.

The biggest German one seems to be fomobremen.info

https://mobilizon.fediverse.observer/list

Fediverse Observer checks all servers in the fediverse and gives you an easy way to find a home using a map or list.

Mobilizon Servers Status. Find a Mobilizon server to sign up for, find one close to you!

First glance tells me: It's mainly Openstreetmap meetups :D

Ooooh, if you're from #bremen then https://fomobremen.info/ could be very interesting! There's a *lot* of stuff there – I didn't expect to find such a lively server.

I can haz for Hamburg?

FomoBremen - Mobilizon

It seems that you don't actually need a login if you just want to browse events. But if you want to "participate" (whatever that means, I guess I'm going to find out...) you need an account – but maybe just on *any* fediverse instance?

Welp, now I need some event I can participate in...

@metaphil created an event for me (see the answer in this thread) \o/

If I try to access it via my Mastodon account (figure 1), mobilizon directs me to the mastodon view of the event (figure 2).

I answered with an important question:

@[email protected] This sounds lovely! Will there also be tea?

Maybe it needs some time to federate; my comment is not yet shown on the mobilizon page:

But if you click on "Aktionen" (en: "actions"?), you get an invite link and can click to automatically share it on Mastodon, Diaspora and via mail. The other "Aktion" ("add to my calendar") downloads an .ics file – so no magic here.

I didn't find a possibility to participate via Mastodon yet, but I'll keep looking.

I managed to make a #mobilizon account! It seems to have a lot of automatically (and badly) translated stuff; it's very unpleasant German...

Next step in the #fedivoyage: Create an event. Here it is:

https://mobilizon.envs.net/events/38ccb2da-b0c3-4418-9dfc-d6588929454e

Feel free to interact; write a comment, or, if you even plan (and are allowed) to participate, then click on participate and tell me what happens :D

Geekfem – Technikinteressierte FLINTA*-Personen in Hamburg

Oooooh, I can add information about the event, that may be filterable?

Now look at these beauties!

(But, wtf smokefree?)

Oh, also nice: It looks the addres up in openstreetmap and suggests places! And it even shows a map, and says something about "drag and drop the marker below", but I don't see any marker...

Creating a new event worked like a charm; I had some pleasant surprises!

I still want to play around with federation. Next time!

Federation didn't work out that well; I couldn't even figure out how to write a message from mobilizon... I can find the interface, but the "send" button is not clickable...
So I'll just go on to the next station of the #fedivoyage :D
@piko German Translation is at about 80% in their translation platform. If I'm bored in the next weeks I'll increase this a bit :D
@piko As far as I heard, fomobremen.info does not actually federate with any other servers. I don't know why though (also, the info might be outdated).
@piko ohai please come join me for beer o'clock:

Beer o'clock with Piko

@metaphil Oooooh, very interesting event!
@piko I only know instances that just use it as event focused cms without federation. Works nice for that with rss and ical feeds, ...
