“good morning everyone, hope you enjoyed your breakfast. we’re going to spend the fifteenth hour of this flight trying to land at SFO.”
What a ride. Fourth approach finally worked, hopefully with great applause from the back of the bus.
@midendian at least they didn’t have to give up entirely and go back home!
@TimKarabian been faster to take the train!
@midendian and that’s one of the longest flights in the world. imagine flying all that time only to be trolled at the end. lol

#SFO was running on a single runway for most of the day. Wind pushed both departures and arrivals to RWY 10 (already a rare condition) but 10R is closed for repairs. Luckily once the worst of the wind started mid-afternoon, the direction had changed enough to move arrivals to 19L/R—with an obvious relief in the voices of the controllers.

But still a fun afternoon hanging out with the resident seagull population of the Tanforan Target parking lot. #planespotting #avgeek

Not usually much for video but it’s difficult to convey how dynamic wind shear is with stills. #SFO #planespotting #avgeek
@midendian Hard to tell from the camera angle - was that a go-around?
@mattblaze yeah you can see an increase in the exhaust when they decide this is not a good idea.
@midendian saw some birds flying sideways like this today in the wind. 😂 crazy friggin winds today
@whack didn’t see very many birds at all today higher than about 2m AGL. smarter than humans.
@midendian That last photo is brilliant. If SSF had any marketing savvy they’d license that for a poster. ( cc @kyleve )
@tylerstone @kyleve home of industrial-strength seagulls.
@midendian But really, are there any other kind? (Cc @kyleve)
@midendian yikes! Hope they can land you soon. It is hella windy down here.
@SFBayTide luckily wasn’t on it, just watching from the couch 😅
@midendian Ugh, those Singapore flights are too long already!
