Bad idea: Sierra game randomizer.
The way it works is that portals will be added in the game that let you cross from one game to another, and every place you can acquire an item will instead give you a random item from one of the games included in the randomizer
So you try to pick up the loose wiring from SQ3 and instead get the bank statement from Gold Rush
@foone I shudder to think of the randomization logic that'd need to prevent softlocks
@puzzler @foone Is it really a proper Sierra games without softlocks though?

@puzzler Especially since Sierra themselves weren't much concerned about preventing softlocks.

Hm. If anything, this would probably make the games *more* playable

@foone So long as no one uses the grabber to shove a ladder in my pocket.
OUCH!
@foone presumably you'd need to cross write and add tons of interactions for all the new items in every game. Or would you just require people to portal to the correct game for a given item in order to use it?
@foone like that one time in Monkey Island, where the VGA version ended up in a low-res pixel version of another Monkey Island game
@ppxl @foone Curse of Monkey Island, 640x480, stick your head out of a trunk in Secret of Monkey Island, 320x200?
@kawa @foone hell yeah, now we're talking! Exactly that one 😁

@foone This annoys me to no end because I know Too Much about these games and engines.

But this example specifically makes me reach for the "delete this" gun because those aren't even the same *engine*.

@foone Oh that sounds like a multiworld randomizer and you know what? I'd play it.

@foone We have different concepts of 'bad'. I want that.

(Also, the name's sitting right there: Every Quest.)

@foone I think you've been watching too many Super Metroid + LttP randomizer races.
@foone I was about to say that Sierra games are already random enough, but the idea of a Multiverse would be interesting. Kinda taking Space Quest IV to the extreme.
@foone I bet the gameplay would feel a bit like star wars: yoda stories
@foone Well, a certain lounge lizards game might go a very different way if you ask the bartender for a whisky and he gives you a Lytton PD .22 caliber trick cane... or the Sword and Shield of Truth.
@foone Kind of like [Archipelago](https://archipelago.gg/)?
Archipelago

@foone There is no bad idea. Only bad implementations.
@foone Alexander pulls out his Magic Map, is immediately run over by a taxi.
@foone I would give a kidney to play Hero Police Quest for Glory
@foone Maybe it would be more agile to make one for old Lucasarts games. Call it the Script Creation and Randomization Utility for Maniac Mansion or SCRUMM
@foone Adding The Incredible Machine to the mix would really spice things up
@foone
So just making them all work with Archipelago would do it?
