Totally didn't do this while slacking off another project.

Astonished and happy this could reach and amuse so many of you out there.

Got nothing to plug or advertise for, other than some wise words I once came across:

In a world where you can be anything, be kind.

That’s all. Keep having a nice day.

@draconigen This really tracks with a lot of stuff in life.
@draconigen true. How about principals/ senior principals?🤔
@Esjott 80% putting it off, 1% telling someone else to do it, 19% some poor intern sweating it together.

@draconigen A BILLION TIMES THIS.

Only as a Senior vs Junior Engineer in the workplace

@draconigen

How did you get access to this top secret information about my workflow?

@draconigen Explains a lot about my job title...
@draconigen I did not expect to be called out like this today 😅
@cibyr Abolishing the State would fix this
@draconigen In fairness, most of that time in yellow is spent helping the Junor’s keep their projects on track.

@draconigen

Sometimes it is the motivation that comes looking for me.

@draconigen that orange part is also "background processing and problem solving" - there is no way to really eliminate it completely. (Some of it maybe, but I eventually accepted that I don't get high productivity times without the low ones because my brain is always working...)
@draconigen As a young, I would rather say it's the reverse... ^^' My older friends always impressive me for accomplish so much things...
Maybe it's not a question of age in fact.
@draconigen Ah and I didn't understood it was the same time for complete the project... For me it will take manyyyy more time so! ^^'
@draconigen @rixx Been writing code for around two decades now, and can relate. I am enthusiastic about programming, but have less and less motivation to start new stuff. Have to drag myself to do it.
@draconigen I feel very called out by this...

@draconigen

So, people make memes instead.

@kevinrns *coughs*

@draconigen

I like your graphic explanation of time.

@draconigen After some discussion locally, we added a bit.

The good news is though, as a staff level engineer, by the time you've found the motivation to get started, the project got cancelled anyway due to a reorg...

@ixs hahaha! Painfully accurate for my work place, too 🥲
@draconigen @ixs don't forget "attending other meetings instead of this project"
@gravepapaya @draconigen
"☑️ I am in this toot and I do not like it."
@ixs @draconigen Where's the external consultant?
@mansr @draconigen Good question. 🤔

@draconigen Engineer: 90% of the time thinking about the precisely correct implementation, 10% actually implementing it
@draconigen I would say I'm in this picture, but I'm still working up the motivation to type that comment 😁
@draconigen I think I've always had senior mentality, I remember still being a junior, but my responsibilities were doing different kinds of research with vague time constraints and no good metrics to measure if I was actually doing something and I remember being able to slack off for a couple of weeks not doing anything work-related at all, but then discovering something absolutely amazing and implementing it in a way that was enough do demonstrate its usefulness — pretty close to your diagram😂
@m0xee you are to be congratulated for becoming a senior ahead of your time!
@draconigen I always said I've always been a senior 😎#RimbaudSpeechStyle
@draconigen
🎵
Everybody
Move your feet and start the project
Whoa oh
@draconigen I hate how true this is, ugh x_x
@draconigen I’m staff level so this explains a lot.

@draconigen I’ve done exactly that 30 years ago: jr windows developer working in the office full time. I showed up Thurday afternoon to see how it was going, wrote code that evening and showed a better Macintosh version on Friday. Every single week till we shipped.

That’s when you get paid for your skills and no the time spend.

@draconigen I interpreted the "total time to complete the project" as representing a non-existent bar, which I don't think was intended yet also is fully real
@draconigen
@wardi
So totally me. (The senior bar.)
@draconigen In a healthy organization, the yellow part is extra, off the books, duties critical to maintaining a healthy organization.

@draconigen Alternate legend:

Senior (Yellow): Time telling the junior that their way will require ripping everything out and starting from scratch

Senior (Green): Just doing the whole project the right way to make the deadline

@draconigen

I must BOTH be very senior AND very junior by that definition.

Well, the ratio of moviation period to work period is equal or greater than that of a senior developer, but the length of the work period required exceeds that of a a junior developer.

@draconigen trying to convince management it's unnecessary and won't be used: 90%
slapping something together which will never be used: 10%.
@draconigen Ths is a perfect depiction of my my week, last week! How did you know that?!?!
@draconigen @mathias Totally didn't throw this together in a few minutes because my lizard brain saw those 2 words and immediately song was stuck in my head. XD
@kzorrofuego thanks for the song stuck in my head now >:c
@draconigen Wow, who knew? I didn't realise I'd been born a natural senior!

@draconigen no one has mentioned the missing element my friend identified:

"Add a line for person not involved taking credit"

@draconigen Well if the senior developer is good, they'll think about the problem on and off in the yellow part, finding better solutions that mean less work.
