A topic that often comes up in chats before meetups is that people are moving on and currently just on garden leave or sensibly doing handovers. It makes me wonder if I am the only person who has always been in roles where I end up kept working on projects up to the last day?
@CodeBunTes Absolutely not, I don't think I have ever done "real" hand overs
@waltza I was starting to worry this was just a me thing, so glad it's not the case! As for 'real' handovers, I don't think I've ever been at a place where it's been more than a few days writing scrappy notes right at the very end with no one else on it, though I've usually only been on month notices so tougher to schedule maybe. Though even on my most recent one I'd already worked >4 months notice solidly and with only 9 days to go no handover had been scheduled in, so maybe it never happens!
@CodeBunTes @waltza when I left my first ever job after being there for 6 years I spent the final 2 weeks being filmed with a camcorder explaining every aspect of my job step by step.
@CodeSharePaul @CodeBunTes @waltza That would mean I would need to be able to explain my job to begin with, which is a challenge on it's own! πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚
@CorneHoskam @CodeSharePaul @CodeBunTes @waltza I wonder if they ever did watch it back ?! πŸ€”πŸ˜‚
@CodeBunTes I had to work 12 in my last job. Fortunately the last 2 weeks were holiday, and it was the best holiday ever. For the previous 12 years I'd not relaxed on hols as was worried about "what would happen at work whilst I was away and what I would return to" In this one holiday there was literally no reason to worry.
@rachelbreezedev Sadly a story I know all too well. :( I could never relax if I took longer holidays, so only ever did the odd day here and there. Though in the intended last month of my last role I'd booked a rare 2 week holiday, mainly to check they were prepared before I would return to do a few final days. That holiday was never to be in the end as one of the last things they were angling for on the day I walked was to cancel it just to do handover that had not been scheduled previously!
