It’s a wintery cold day so I’m making a batch of #goetta. It’s steel-cut oats and ground meat and spices, slow cooked then made into a loaf, sliced, and fried up as breakfast food. I like to make a big batch and then freeze slices of it for later.

Historically I think it’s German-American in origin, and is similar to the Pennsylvania Dutch scrapple which is made with cornmeal. I believe both were a way to use up scraps of meat leftover from butchering. #meat #food
