@taylorlorenz when ‘not in my name,’ is simply not an option, that’s fascism isn’t it? Are these folks being persecuted for their politics or their insistence that love be a part of the religion they live?

@taylorlorenz calling it a witch hunt seems to misidentify the issue.

Generally, witch hunts wrap people up in searches for evils that are only imagined, not real. The problem is, in this case it sounds like they’re intentionally going after people who say the wrong things.

In other words, the problem is that instead of this being tragic collateral damage, this is the stuff they’re intentionally choosing to target.

It requires a different response.

@taylorlorenz Calling this witch hunt seems borderline apologistic. It’s plain totalitarian, not some sort of misguided moral panic.

@taylorlorenz

"“Most #Israelis don’t know much about #Palestinians. They think they are terrorists, all of them, or vague images with no names, no faces, no family, no homes, no hopes,”Baruchin said. “What I am trying to do in my posts is present Palestinians as #human beings.”

Ten days after that #Facebook message, he was fired from his #teaching job... Less than a month later he was in a high-security jail"

Is Netanyahu putting his own political future ahead of the good of Israel?

Opposition leaders say Prime minister Netanyahu, who rebuffed U.S. calls for a two-state solution this week, should step down. But analysts say his position is not outside Israeli political norms post-Oct. 7.

@taylorlorenz this does not surprise me at all. My one South African Jewish friend wanted to visit friends in Israel a few years ago but was detained at the airport, held overnight, and deported because he had criticized Israel’s treatment of Palestinians in a student newspaper years before.
@taylorlorenz Everyday #Bibi finds new ways to turn Israel from “a light unto nations” into a dumpster fire for the ages.
