What strikes me most about DHH's post about @ismh is that he tried to frame it as if he's some sort of Robin Hood bringing free stuff to the masses and making Stephen seem like the big, bad guy with the powerful ... kickstarter project?

Anyway, I was convinced that DHH was a creep a very long time ago. It's just impressive to see him show his true colors while also being a dick to a friend.

@jsnell @ismh Shows, yet again, that just because you're technically gifted doesn’t mean you're wise or a good person. Similar to observing how many people who went to elite colleges like Yale and Harvard remain morally stunted.
@jsnell @ismh I really wish someone would copy hey.com from him. It kills me that he’s the one to finally make an email system that works for me 🫣

@ccunning @jsnell @ismh I had Hey email until all that controversy a couple of years ago regarding his employees. No matter how much i liked the product, i couldn’t keep giving his company any more of my money.

I moved over to fastmail and think it’s actually a better product (for me anyway) and it’s half the cost which is a bonus.

@ccunning

Haven’t tried it myself, but perhaps https://clean.email/ can fill that spot? I heard of them through an @atpfm sponsorship recently, sounds like they tick many of the same boxes Hey does.

DHH being builled by a large company and he decided the right thing to do is to be a bully too and target an indie.glad we know he’s a jerk long ago
LOL
@jsnell
He is starting to remind me a big of Elon. 😒
@jsnell 37Signals and Basecamp represent the worst of Web 2.0 founder success. Libertarian @$$holes and bullies. Rotten and untrustworthy. Won’t change.
@jsnell @ismh I can’t help but wonder if this was deliberate cause he made fun of the guy on Connected a couple of times. I honestly wouldn’t put that kind of petty behavior past him. All while headpatting himself for being oh so clever.
@marlies @jsnell I would believe it.
His next version will probably be something about 37Colors.

@jsnell @ismh “Big bad Apple is being mean to me!”

*whiplash*

“Here’s something we’ve ‘borrowed’ from an indie Kickstarter!”

No sense of awareness? Actual awareness and not giving it a F? Neither option is good.

@jsnell @ismh Wha? This sucks, I like Hey a lot due to it working how I'd like email to work but really don't want to keep paying knowing this shitstain benefits.

@jsnell @ismh I signed up for hey when it came out but it’s not been a major address for me because of its lack of IMAP support. Pure webmail just isn’t right for me. I don’t need a new calendar system, either. I hadn’t realized how controversial 37signals was until all this. I canceled my hey subscription; I just don’t need it, and don’t need to fill their pockets with my money.

That said, Apple’s rejection of the calendar app seems dumb. Google has one.

@jsnell @ismh is there any history behind the curtains? This 40k kickstarter was such a random comment on his end and totally unnecessary. Haven’t checked but assume the pure digital version of the calendar is cheaper than Hey’s monthly subscription. What a turd.

On the other hand, this must give Stephen even more power for 2025 calendar. I’m already looking for buying it (never bought any before as I’m not calendar person, but now I have to because of this jerk).
