The Ivory Tower demonstrated that they've become mere bystanders to society by allowing themselves to be so successfully attacked so to me it reflects more on their ineptness to meet the moment since we already knew that our media was incapable of standing up to the rightwing disinformation campaigns.
@GreenFire @brucy @JuliusGoat I fear putting identity before critical theory has led to this, because they now care more about who is saying something than what is being said and thus are more easily duped and more like politicians than academics.

I'm not going to attempt to diagnose such a large institution. My point is that they should be better capable of countering the efforts of their enemies from either the right or the left.

I will suggest that their desperate desire to retain the large influx of cash necessary to support the quality of life they've come to expect might make them too timid to lobby the attacks necessary to defend oneself perhaps.
