Rufo: I believe Black people in places of influence have their places illegitimately
Media:

Rufo: I'll smear Harvard's president
Media:

Rufo: I'll target her specifically because she is Black
Media:

Rufo: The media will help me; they have no guard against such manipulation
Media:

Rufo: Hey media here's the smear
Media: 700 STORIES A DAY ABOUT THIS FOR SOME UNKNOWABLE REASON

Rufo: haha one down, more to come
Media: congrats stranger; would you like an op-ed?
Rufo: sure, I'll use it to brag

@JuliusGoat
I hate it here
@brucy @JuliusGoat
The Ivory Tower demonstrated that they've become mere bystanders to society by allowing themselves to be so successfully attacked so to me it reflects more on their ineptness to meet the moment since we already knew that our media was incapable of standing up to the rightwing disinformation campaigns.
@GreenFire @brucy @JuliusGoat I fear putting identity before critical theory has led to this, because they now care more about who is saying something than what is being said and thus are more easily duped and more like politicians than academics.

@freequaybuoy @brucy @JuliusGoat
I'm not going to attempt to diagnose such a large institution. My point is that they should be better capable of countering the efforts of their enemies from either the right or the left.

I will suggest that their desperate desire to retain the large influx of cash necessary to support the quality of life they've come to expect might make them too timid to lobby the attacks necessary to defend oneself perhaps.

@JuliusGoat He’s not just bragging, though, right? I’m thinking that laying out his strategy is an important tactic in his successes. It coordinates and mobilizes his supporters so that they keep ā€œplagiarismā€ in the news and in the Harvard boardroom. It’s looking more and more like a key technique, which is worth studying.
@jakemiller There has been a war on education for decades. Tying that war to a highly successful black woman and succeeding in damaging her and the public’s faith in higher education at the same time was a massive win for these creeps. Nothing mobilizes the GOP base better & faster than covert racism. #Education #USPol #GOP #Harvard

@JuliusGoat Also this enrages me because I'm part of the original test scapegoat group for Rufo's propaganda and hate (trans people, now he's expanded to BIPOC as well)

We were warning *everyone* about this Coughlin-Goebbels chimera and got ignored.

Sadly, it makes me think he's going to get away with doing the same harm to BIPOC he did to us

@JuliusGoat I find the struggle so much had to do with having actual a moral compass. The left will wilt under scrutiny, even if it’s half baked, because they’d rather not be the distraction. Whereas those on the right get into power and you have to drag them away from it while they dig their fingernails in. And often it’s the MAGA cult mentality. Those on the right will still have support. Those on the Left won’t blindly keep supporting someone if they’ve done wrong and MAGAs know this.
@JuliusGoat focusing on the messenger rather than the message is probably less useful.
@ech Focusing on the fact that the messenger is deploying his message in service of a supremacist and eliminationist urge to destroy diversity as a concept and education as an institution is probably more useful, though.
@JuliusGoat Maybe. If that's what Rufo is trying to do, then it seems worth noting he doesn't seem to have accomplished much.
