What would you like to see from us in 2024?
@frameworkcomputer
ARM laptop? Probably not possible...
@jannem @frameworkcomputer Absolutely! Would love to have an native ARM Linux ultrabook
@jannem @frameworkcomputer yes this could be interesting!
@frameworkcomputer
More IO ports on the 13" model

@claudius @frameworkcomputer

One dedicated USB-C port on each side would be a big step up. You could call it a charging port as a USB-C is always needed to charge!

Would love to see this.

@tinnedsoftware @frameworkcomputer Yes, that would solve it for me. 2 USB-C + 4 configurable (2 USB-A, HDMI, Ethernet) would be my ideal combo.

@tinnedsoftware @claudius @frameworkcomputer

What's the benefit of dedicated USB-C? I think it's nice to choose which side to charge from without superfluous ports

@Tactician_mark @tinnedsoftware @frameworkcomputer I need more ports than four. Regularly. Docking Station is not an option, because I need those ports while mobile (IMO the entire point of having a laptop).

On my ThinkPad, I have

* 2 USB-C
* 2 USB-A
* HDMI
* Ethernet

I regularly max out all of these and on top of that I could _still_ use one or two more USB-A ports.
1/2

@Tactician_mark @tinnedsoftware @frameworkcomputer
2/2
The suggestion of having extra USB-C ports seperate of the four bays would solve this, but having HDMI, Ethernet or USB-A would also solve my problem. Likewise with having six bays like on the 16 inch model.

I personally think having USB-C "fixed" makes sense because it's a very versatile port that will _at least_ be used for charging. Everyone will use at least one USB-C port. Uf course six bays would be even better.

@Tactician_mark @frameworkcomputer
3/2
I want to add: i don't think @tinnedsoftware meant to *limit* that extra port to charging. I'm pretty sure he meant this as a regular USB-C port.

Calling it "charging" is probably more of a comparison to other laptops than a functional limitation.

@claudius @Tactician_mark @frameworkcomputer

That is right, I would not limit them in functionality. I would rather like to see fully featured usb-c ports. Limitations are bad in this case as you than need to be carefull with what to connect where.

I meant it as a reason for having one fixed on either side.

@frameworkcomputer Weird ask: partnership with a desktop case manufacturer to use your expansion cards as front panel connectors. Not many, but one or two on a new case would be neat.
@the9thdude @frameworkcomputer This gave me ideas for a 3D Printing project, maybe...
@mr_daemon @frameworkcomputer If I knew how to do PCB design, I'd probably do the same. Something like a 5.25" bay for the expansion cards.
@frameworkcomputer Oh, and maybe a chassis for the keyboards/input modules so we could use them standalone?
@frameworkcomputer a thinkpad-style trackpoint

@frameworkcomputer

A touch screen with the necessary hinges to get a tablet experience like a Dell XPS13 2in1. And with a Wacom EMR layer for pen support.

😉

@frameworkcomputer shipping to more countries.
@frameworkcomputer Shipping to New Zealand (highly opinionated answer)
Touch screens
Cellular modem options, potentially an expansion bay or expansion card option?
Tablets
General purpose expansion bay module with Ethernet + a few USB-A ports? Could also integrate well with that cellular modem idea

@frameworkcomputer Raspberry-like GPIO on Framework 13 motherboard?

Could be usefull for "porting" F13 motherboard to other laptops :)

@Evv1L @frameworkcomputer Why can't you use an external microcontroller over USB?

@Sqaaakoi why I should use high speed USB port for things like hardware LED activity?

Yes, you can theoretically plug in an Arduino Uno or a controller to USB port, but will it harm a battery life?

@frameworkcomputer

@Evv1L @frameworkcomputer hm, idk how it will change battery life, but for just some LEDs it is a waste
@frameworkcomputer a pipe dream but I would love a smartphone from you guys, like a Fairphone for US
@slashscreen @frameworkcomputer I think Fairphone ships to the US now, so you might already have that option!
@patrizia @frameworkcomputer from what I’ve seen unfortunately not
Murena Fairphone 4 is now available in the USA! - Murena - deGoogled phones and services

The wait is over! We have been waiting for this for a long time and now are more than excited to share with you this big news! The highly-repairable, modular and deGoogled Murena Fairphone 4 has finally arrived to the USA.  Murena Fairphone 4 is a more sustainable choice that…

Murena - deGoogled phones and services
@frameworkcomputer cheaper models would be nice
@frameworkcomputer Availability in New Zealand! I'm sure I'm not alone in being willing to pay extra for shipping from Australia if it means not having to wait indefinitely for an NZ distribution centre/partner to make business/financial sense for you...
@frameworkcomputer extended warranties (4 years) and onsite support to unlock business access to framework laptops
@frameworkcomputer Available for Nordic countries? :P You practically do not exist for us until you are, so...
@frameworkcomputer more BIOS updates, open BIOS.
@frameworkcomputer
Small formfactor PC. Like tiny/mini/micro series but with framework laptop motherboard, supporting expansions
Fix Consumer Electronics

We know consumer electronics can be better for you and for the environment. Unlike most products, ours are open for you to repair and upgrade

Framework

@Sqaaakoi
It's not exactly the same, as it doesn't support expansions. I mean like 16 inch model, maybe with some additional pcb, adding some sata, or full-size PCI-e port.

@frameworkcomputer

@latsss @frameworkcomputer Oh, okay
I think that'd be rather interesting

@frameworkcomputer

For me that would be:

- WWAN option (4G/5G modem)
- Touchpad with "mouse" buttons (Thinkpad style)

If these were available I could finally switch away from Lenovo.

@frameworkcomputer A Linux tablet or a second gen 13" laptop.

@frameworkcomputer Shipping to Malaysia

My current laptop's condition is getting worse, I need a new laptop

@frameworkcomputer a cheaper laptop (could be a bigger one, with less power of course) for people who can't really afford a USD 1000 computer :)
@frameworkcomputer Sweden as a shipping destination. :-)
@frameworkcomputer expansion of business to Switzerland! I and 8.5 million friends are eagerly waiting for you!
@f @frameworkcomputer I got mine shipped to a PO box in konstanz, not ideal, but worked :)
@frameworkcomputer
A Framework 14, because 13 is too small and 15/16 is too big 😅
@frameworkcomputer Denmark as a shipping destination.

@frameworkcomputer Clear, open, honest communication that avoids a repeat of the fiasco of the 12th Gen Intel BIOS beta thread.

Twistgibber has finally provided a suitable response (albeit sticking to “We’ll only provide news when there’s something positive to share”), Framework should have provided a response earlier in the year that covered “We don’t have an answer right now, but here is what’s happened, this is what’s currently happening and this is what we’re aiming for. We appreciate your patience and understanding.” That would have avoided the thread devolving into a flame war, be locked, unlocked, and have (at least) several sorely disappointed customers.

It’s not just about the products and the right to repair ethos, it’s also about the communications that makes or breaks Framework its reputation. 🩵

12th Gen Intel Core BIOS 3.06 Beta

Hi Everyone! We are excited to release our first BIOS update for 12th Gen Systems. This update has been a bit more complex due to needing to update retimers, and we have had to rewrite our updater for both EFI and windows to support this. Please carefully read through the update instructions, especially if you update using EFI! Please note that if you update to 3.06, you will not be able to downgrade to a lower version as it will cause left side ports to stop functioning for any mode except ...

@frameworkcomputer

Coreboot
Disabled IME (AMD equiv.)

A version of the touchpad with integrated mouse buttons, please. :)
@frameworkcomputer coreboot everywhere, risc-v (*not* ARM), and nothing but good news?
@wrybane @frameworkcomputer +1 for RISC-V (obviously not a 2024 goal)
@frameworkcomputer Starting sales in Portugal, please!
@frameworkcomputer shipping to Sweden would be very nice :)
@frost @frameworkcomputer Yes, yes, and all the yes. Pretty please 🙏
@nevonnen @frameworkcomputer I’m thinking it’ll happen sooner or later, once they get all the logistics sorted out. But if it happens sooner, that’s nice.
@frameworkcomputer More rumors on framework phone and the COREBOOT
