#Dyeing and #Repair is in my mix with an old, but very well made Frette bathrobe getting a fresh look. It started white, got dingy, then got coffee and tea dyed a little—including some coffee cup rings which I loved the look of—but never really achieved the effect I was hoping for. Yesterday I implemented a natural dye plan I've been prepping for, giving it its vinegar-water mordant soak followed by overnight in a cold turmeric bath. (Details to come.)
#Sashiko is in my mix, continuing the #Sustainability theme, as I took a walk yesterday to get a book on it (Simply Sashiko) and started the Domestika course by Atsushi Futatsuya https://www.domestika.org/en/courses/4952-introduction-to-japanese-sashiko-stitching
Unfortunately though I found sashiko needles on my walk yesterday, I did not find thread, so the golden-yellow repairs I'm planning for the robe will have to wait.
#Sewing and #Discardia are in my mix as I practice Perpetual Upgrade and turn some inherited fabric, old stuff from my own stash, and old flannel sheets into a bedroom robe inspired by Japanese fishermans' jackets.
Because my bedroom is on the north side of the house, it tends to damp and bathrobes should never hang in there wet. So I need both a post bath robe that lives in the bedroom (currently in the washer rinsing out the turmeric from its yellowification) and a bedroom robe.
Since I'm making up the pattern for my Japanese fishermans' jacket inspired robe, I'm being a good little sewist and making a mock-up. But since I'm practicing #sustainability in my #sewing I'm hoping even the mockup will be usable (rather than needing to be unpicked or repurposed).
Since I'm making two robes, I decided to do the mockup in a heavier fabric for the non-flannel former-sheet side. That should end me up with winter and summer robes, I hope.
