Alright, my verdict is in. If you're using Apple's devices, the best Mastodon client is @IceCubesApp
By far. It's so good that it's not even a competition.

Big kudos to @dimillian for creating it and thanks to @potiridi for pointing me in the right direction.

Ice Cubes... rocks!

@elefanto @IceCubesApp @dimillian @potiridi If you’re interested in large visuals, Ice Cubes is the best app I can find thus far. Their ‘thumbnail” scale is quite large, and that means it really shows off art and video at a level most other apps can’t match. For artists looking to show off their work and see the work of others, it’s the best choice.

@elefanto @IceCubesApp @dimillian @potiridi Indeed. I started with the official app since I wanted to try the “standard” experience as much as possible. After a couple of months, I tested a few other options for a few weeks each to try to give me time to adjust to the particularities of each app but always with the official app installed as a “backup”. I ended up with #IceCubesApp being the one installed.

@rolle I tried MonaApp, but we just didn’t click. Yes, it does provide a lot of customization points, but I don’t insist to be able to customise *everything*, I wish to customize the right set of options.

Overall, I like the design decisions made with Ice Cubes more.

I also appreciate that Ice Cubes is open source. That’s actually a better trigger for me personally to support it (read, send money) than requesting that from me for “pro” features.

Ice Cubes is almost perfect in many ways. I like the real time feeds, it's the only thing other apps don't have.

@elefanto I was using Ice Cubes exclusively on the iPhone, after trying out multiple clients. I did just switch to the Mastodon app though, probably because I don't take advantage of everything Ice Cubes has to offer. I still have it on my iPhone, so I should take another look at it.
