I see growing anti-refugee hate & fear.

If only the Bible had a story about a mother & infant fleeing death & tyranny to desperately seek refuge in a foreign land—maybe politicians would humanize parents & kids fleeing death & tyranny to desperately seek refuge in USA.

If Only.

Anyway. Merry Christmas!

@QasimRashid They could even sing songs about it.
@QasimRashid I have a feeling is this were written on pre-Musk Twitter, this post would have ended with "oh, wait"
@QasimRashid And to you. The present church bears precious little resemblance to the Jesus we are taught about.

@QasimRashid

In conservative religious circles, the sad part about the accounts of Jesus's birth isn't the poverty or Mary and Joseph being refugees. It's that that could happen to, gasp, *the King!*

@QasimRashid

Reminder that any fundamentalism relies on a *selective* reading of its sacred texts. Conservative Christians already omit any concern for the poor and a few other inconvenient parts of scripture. This'd be one more.

@benfell
Yeah, this is the so-called "cafeteria Christianity", where you pick and choose what you would like to believe. "Oh, look, God said He would rain hellfire on our enemies. I'll pick some of that. Oh, wait, I have to reflect on my own faults rather than pointing out those of others. That part I won't be getting." That's not religion, that's fantasy.

#CafeteriaChristianity

@QasimRashid Almost all folk myths have a version of this story. War between large groups of chimps and the refugees this generates appears timeless.
@QasimRashid I agree there’s much hypocrisy by those who believe in so called Christian values. Assuming you’re referring to the nativity story. I was always told they were traveling from Nazareth to Bethlehem for a Roman census due to it being Joseph’s hometown.
@jetmakerbrit @QasimRashid He's referring to the flight to Egypt - Matthew 2:13–23.
@QasimRashid  ❤️ blessings be upon you and all you love and care and never quit fighting for a true democracy for all, without exceptions of any kind.
@QasimRashid
No, they wouldn't - not this bunch of wankers running the US, the UK and the EU

@QasimRashid @HumanServitor

Unfortunately, the Bible also has a story about an oppressed people emigrating to a foreign land, then committing a horrifying genocide ordained by God.

The Bible is kind of a mixed bag when it comes to ethics.
