All right, finished and delivered the baby blanket for the baby shower. Managed to keep it a secret that I knew* how to #crochet and was doing a blanket for my oldest niece's first born from my extended family until the gift was opened.

@sarah I'm blushing. Thank you! This was my first piece bigger than a hat or a dish cloth, so the positive feedback is really gratifying. As far as the colors all credit goes to Toni Lipsey, I just followed the pattern as closely as I was able. Her color sense is just impeccable.
