Never thought that I'd write these words:

I read a hugely important thread over at Threads.

Probably won't surprise (m)any, I know, but still needs to be public knowledge.

@lolgop

This is important. There must be accountability beyond the officers that murdered George Floyd. Systemic failures that permitted Floyd’s murder also permitted many more murders and almost-murders.

How Police Have Undermined the Promise of Body Cameras

Hundreds of millions in taxpayer dollars have been spent on what was sold as a revolution in transparency and accountability. Instead, police departments routinely refuse to release footage — even when officers kill.

@MarkBrigham @lolgop Yep, no need to go to Threads when you can get it from the source! The ProPublica article is an enlightening and disturbing read.
@lolgop yeah, nah. Not going to Threads. This feels like spam honestly.
@lolgop

New lawsuits inbound, no doubt.

Really feels like whether to release or not shouldn't be at the discretion of individual cities, let alone their PDs. The only redactions that should be allowed is blurring of faces of civilians and
actively undercover detectives, but any footage of an interaction between police and civilians should be public record (no need to FOIA, etc.).
@lolgop
So you're asking us to go on thread in order to find out how much of our data they're going to steal when we go on thread? 😳
@lolgop It's so important. Man, foh.

@lolgop so the police essentially covered for having a serial killer in their midst, because he consistently attempted to kill BIPOC individuals and it would look bad for them, if he got punished.

How is he not on death row and the entire police department disbanded?
