This is my first time participating in the Art Advent Calendar so I thought it would be a good idea to start with my first Gameboy trichrome. It's not exactly successful but I was so proud of this at the time. #ArtAdventCalendar #Gameboy #Trichrome #1990sCameraChallenge
This year I really embraced trichrome photography, in film and digital, and especially recreating the look of the discontinued infrared film Kodak Aerochrome. #ArtAdventCalendar, #Infrared, #FullSpectrum, #Panasonic, #lumix , #Aerochrome,
The other 'thing' I got into this year is glitching. This came from my experiments with the Gameboy and started with simple databending, opening image files with word processors or audio editors. #ArtAdventCalendar#Audacity#Databending#DigitalArt#Glitch#GlitchArt#Glitchy#PlayStationPortable,
Long overdue was my purchase of a Holga (and I love it so much I now have two). This is also my first attempt at using Lomochrome Turquoise, and quite frankly it's a match made in heaven. #ArtAdventCalendar#Experimental#Holga#Lomo#Lomochrome#HeyLomography#Turquoise,
For the first time I took part in the annual Frugal Film Project. I chose an Agfa Clack and Fomapan Retro film, which was not without its trails an tribulations, but of course, one of the first things I had to try was ... trichromes. #ArtAdventCalendar, #AgfaClack, #Trichrome, #Fomapan, #Retro, #FrugalFilmProject, #TrichromeEverything,
Sometimes I just dropped all the cameras (not literally of course) and became just another tourist armed with a smartphone. These are the caves of Sangalhos, where they make aguardente (a spirit best taken in small doses). #ArtAdventCalendar
One thing that plagued me during the Frugal Film Project was 'fat' rolls with the Agfa Clack. I think I've cracked the issue now, but it didn't stop me from making some very light-leaky trichromes.
Best viewed from a distance here's a Gameboy trichrome from the Coronation of Charles III. I wasn't there, of course, but took this from the TV. I was actually really surprised that images from a paused TV screen came out so well. #ArtAdventCalendar, #GameboyCamera, #Gameboy, #Nintendo, #GameboyPocket, #Trichrome, #Funtography,
If there's one thing I like more than making digital aerochromes with the Gameboy then it's glitching digital aerochromes from the Gameboy. This one is an example of a technique called pixel sorting. #ArtAdventCalendar #Glitch #Glitchy #PixelSorting #Gameboy #Infrared
I'm a real sucker for old noughties digicams and have an unnecessarily large collection of these lovely beasties. Of course, the first thing I do is check out what they're like with an infrared filter. Sometimes they're rubbish and sometimes ...

This was a year of experimentation, one of which was to play with flipped lenses. This is one of those early attempts, holding a reversed wide-angle converter over the camera lens, in this case of the glitchy Vivitar Vivicam (when it was working). #ArtAdventCalendar, #Deakinizer, #Lens, #Glitchy,
We're half way through the Art Advent Calendar and I thought it might be nice to share one of my favourite images of the year, a digital aerochrome of the Ponte Pedonal de Ligação Baixa de Santo António in Aveiro, which is a wonderful metal structure surrounded by trees that I knew would look spectacular as a digital aerochrome. #ArtAdventChallenge, #Infrared, #DigitalAerochrome,
It wasn't all digital this year, mind, I took some images on film, too. This is an intentional camera movement image of a planted woodland on Lomochrome Purple taken with my beloved Military Green Holga. Then I loaded the scanned file into Processing and glitched it to oblivion. #ArtAdventCalendar #Glitch #GlitchArt
Just before we went on holiday, I snuck a Minox 35GT loaded with Lomochrome Purple into my suitcase. I'd been wanting to photograph the woods leading to the beach with Purple for over a year. Now I had my chance, and I was delighted with the results ... #ArtAdventCalendar #Ferias #ColourShift
Every year in Agueda there's a big festival. This year I took the Gameboy. #ArtAdventCalendar #Gameboy #PixelArt #Trichrome #TrichromeEverything
A bit of a mixture of twentieth century technology today. A trichrome taken with the Gameboy (from c.1997) combined with a Vortoscope (introduced c.1916). The result is this quite lovely abstract (if I say so myself). #ArtAdventCalendar #Gameboy #PixelArt #Vortoscope #Abstract
One of my favourite techniques with Glitch photography is pixel sorting, where 'a horizontal or vertical line of pixels in an image [are arranged] based on ... each pixel’s luminosity, hue or saturation' (Datamoshing[.]com). Before I learned how to do this with Processing scripts, I confess, I tried it with an app first (hangs head in shame). #ArtAdventCalendar #GlitchArt #PixelSorting
This photograph was around forty years in the making. In the late 1970s, early 80s I took some random images on a roll of Tri-X with my Mums Kodak Box Brownie. The camera and part used film then remained in various cupboards until she passed it to me in October 2022. I took the camera out in Pershore and used up the rest of the film. About 1yr later I finally got it developed. This is one of the usable photos. #ArtAdventCalendar #ExpiredFilm #KodakBrownie
For the summer Shitty Camera Challenge I took the glitchy Vivitar Vivicam on holiday. When it's not glitching the colours have a lovely vibrant look about them. #ArtAdventCalendar
This is the year I discovered that my Samsung A70 smartphone has a decent sensitivity to infrared. There's a nasty hot spot in the middle but sometimes the subject can complement it. #ArtAdventCalendar #Infrared #Smartphone
Whenever I get a new (to me) camera I always test it out on the trees and well across the road, especially the infrared response. But sometimes I'll just leave an old digicam on its natural settings and it will deliver. This is from a c.1997 Konica Q-M100 digital camera, a contemporary of the Sony Mavica (and my beloved Gameboy). #ArtAdventCalendar #Vintage #Digicam
I'm a bit of a sucker for the Agfa Clack series of cameras, so when I spotted a Vredeborch Felica, a Clack 'clone' from West Germany, I could not resist. #ArtAdventCalendar #MediumFormat #AgfaClack
I'm a big fan of the colour shifting emulsions from Lomography. This is an urban landscape of Aveiro taken with Lomochrome Turquoise. #ArtAdventCalendar #Urban #Holga
It's the final day of the Art Advent Calendar and I'm finishing as I began, with a Gameboy trichrome. Compared to the first one this is 'chalk and cheese', and I don't think I've made one better ... yet. So Season's Greetings, thank you for liking/boosting my #ArtAdventCalendar and #HappyNewYear
@keithdevereux you inspired me to try this film stock with my Holga :)
@andre ... That's great! Personally, I think these colour shifting emulsions (Purple and Turquoise especially) are a perfect match for Holga or Diana type cameras. I've just put a roll through my Minox (rated at 100 ISO) so it'll be interesting to see how that comes out.
@keithdevereux I'm looking forward to the pictures

@keithdevereux I had never thought of taking infrared photos on a smartphone. Inspiring.

Did you just put a filter on the camera?

@andre ... Thank you. Yes, set the camera to black and white mode then hold a 720nm Infrared filter over the lens. (A 950nm makes little difference and I don't have anything less.)
@keithdevereux 'Usable' is an understatement, i think, it's beautiful.
@Stratski ... Thank you. The rest were a little 'worse for wear', though. Forty poorly stored years took their toll.
@keithdevereux would love to see a few more, just to see what the interesting life this roll has lived. This photo is wonderful!
@Stratski
@keithdevereux thanks for this fascinating read. Great pictures!
@Gofimueller ... Thank you. I couldn't remember what the original subject was, then coincidentally @tokyo_nomad_ favourited the original post (thank you) this morning. It's a quilt cover on a dull and rainy day.
